We've got 25% tariffs that seem increasingly likely to actually go into effect. As far as economics go, i'm pretty sure there's no one at the helm.

Edit: unlike tariffs though, I don't think Trump can unilaterally close the border, so i'm not saying it'll happen. Just pointing out that an economy torching policy has been on the way for a year now.

Anyone want to talk about all of the insane tariffs that are gonna be starting up next year. Do you think the market has already priced them in? Or will we see a huge drop when people realize he is serious? I also really worry about what it is going to do to the remaining manufacturing industry when raw materials spike in price

Both Democrats and Republicans are acting like they think the race has narrowed enough that Democrats could pull the upset, but that it would still be very unlikely.

The key factor here that people tend not to realize is that the Republican candidate used to be a Democrat as recently as 2009, got hammered on that in the primary and gave some very unconvincing answers to questions about if she voted for Obama in 2008 and who she voted for in the 2008 democratic primary (which is obviously, to a Mississippi republican, a no-win question), and so there's a possibility her base is not enthused to vote for her. That's her biggest disadvantage, not being pro-lynching.

Worth noting that while yes, crude oil prices have taken a dump over the last week or so, they're basically recovering from a bit of a spike that's been going on all summer. Crude is just about back to where it was at the inauguration.

Wanna crash oil prices? Crash the economy. GOPs love to crow about how how gas was like a buck a gallon when Obama was sworn in, but that was because oil had literally lost 75% of its value after the oil bubble of summer 2008 popped and the world was in the midst of Great Depression II.

I guess it depends on which one Orange Douche comments on to defend the obvious evil first.

Mississippi's population is 37 percent African-American. That's 10 percent higher than Alabama. That makes it significantly more favorable to the Dems than Alabama.

Yeah. Ultimately, when the republican candidate just over yonder in that other southern hellpit turned out to be also literally a pedophile child rapist, ultimately only about four percent of republicans actively voted against him. The only benefit garnered from the obvious and evident awfulness of a conservative candidate is a loss of enthusiasm. Everyone else will be in the tank for her because they actually like what she stands for, because that's what american conservatism is by now.

When I was growing up I never could have imagined that so many white men were so pathetically fragile. Like gently caress, I don't want to minimize what the MeToo movement has accomplished, but what tangible effects on their lives could these clowns have possibly seen from it?

I'm a cowardly weakling and if I hadn't been lucky enough to have parents who could afford to help me get along for a full 5 years out of school before I even began to stabilize my life I'd have probably ended up destitute or dead. I always imagined I was about as fragile as a man could possibly be. The sheer sub-humanity that has been exposed in my gender to me in the last few years has been nothing short of mind-boggling.

I read an article yesterday (bbc.com or The Guardian?) that mentioned that EU countries are no longer cautious about calling out Russia on this kind of poo poo and know that their official response is going to be a lot of lies anyway.

If it just involves one country it might not prompt an immediate response from the other countries, but they are taking notes.

It mentioned stuff like this: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/nov/12/russia-denies-blame-for-arctic-gps-interference
And of course the MH17 airplane crash, which Russia vehemently denies being involved with from the moment it got hit with their missile.
