I know this thread hates it but I thought it was pretty good and think it’ll only improve. It’s worth a watch at least. It’s definitely better than the last 20 years of Simpsons.

I was watching simpsons at 0.75 without knowing until a scene where homer and bart were getting back massages at a hotel and the noises they were making were super drawn out like a youtube poop
Definitely watch Disenchantment over new simpsons please.

I liked the sections of Bender's Game that weren't in the fantasy world. Also I always love bloodthirsty, murderous Leela.

Actually each movie was designed to be split into four episodes,

This is exactly why the movies are bad. They feel like a meandering, disjointed mess when watched all at once, yet they also don't work as individual episodes.

And after recently watching that "season" with my kid, I can say that the editing job they did to slice three movies into episodes is TERRIBLE. Tons of jokes were cut out, the entire intro song from the first movie is missing, the pacing is all wrong, and each episode has like a minute of shoddy "last time on futurama"

I don't like the way every Futurama movie has at least two seperate stories mashed together. At times it feels like the writers had eight episode outlines ready for season five then paired them up into four movie length scripts.

I did like the casino part of the fourth movie but it was practically a standalone episode.

I remember watching the first Futurama movie in college and being totally hyped to see it. My friends and I all got together one evening and watched it as a group and we were all of us super-fans of the show and would binge episodes every weekend. The movie ended and we all just sat their silently completely baffled by what we had just experienced.

"Maybe the second one will be better?" was eventually muttered.

It wasn't. Oh god how it wasn't.

I don't think that's a fair comparison, the Simpsons will still be around billions of years from now when Earth is briefly engulfed by the dying Sun, extinguishing all life

Yeah the episode where they become roided-out gladiators in butterfly costumes and continually molest Fry is awful.

I quite like the later seasons. The good parts are on par with the middling parts of the original run, at least. But the bad parts really do suck.

I don't remember what episode it is, but there were multiple scenes in one of them wrestling in leotards and ripping each other's clothing and I'm 90% sure it's not the gladiator one

It seems obvious from the fact that they thought to include that line that they were trying to make a joke about pointless fan service. It is also obvious from the length of time that they stayed in those costumes that the real point of it was pointless fan service.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Futurama came on TV at the same time the Simpsons was settling in to its decline. Futurama absolutely was better that the Simpsons episodes that were airing at that time. In terms of quality I'd say the original run compares well with say season 8 of the Simpsons where things were starting to get really wacky but they still had ideas to work with. It doesn't hold a candle to seasons 3-6 though.

I liked the Comedy Central run okay, it was still better than the Simpsons of the day, but it definitely had some stinkers.

Yeah same here. I think Family Guy: Blue Harvest came out at about the same time and watching that was like the total opposite experience.

Venture Brothers is always great, but I feel like it's been putting its head progressively further up its own rear end for the past two seasons. I like that it has big, long-term plots, but they've been driving the plot forward without remembering that it's supposed to be funny, too. The latest season was fantastic in the art and and story department, but not particularly funny.

I could have sworn for a while Fox was trying Family Guy and Futurama during the regular week, too. I don't know if it was just some sort of contractual obligation to get in as airings or what since at those times neither show was officially cancelled.

Smug as fuck.
Disenchantment seems like there is a writer with some good jokes stuck with a suit who just kills all his jokes because any form of subtlety at all means SOMEONE will miss the joke.

Example- the king throwing his scepter when he gets mad. First time you see it it seems generally like a angry reaction. Then he starts chucking them out the window.

Cue a later episode where it pans to a bar riddled with scepters stuck in the side.

Funny bit. But then they kill it with the name, something like "the king's scepter" and then bean goes "wow dad's got a strong arm" or something like that.

Clerks: The Animated Series debuted the same time as The Super Bowl, and they showed the second episode first. The problem is the second episode is a clip show parody where it's supposed to be a clip show recap of the first episode so it made like no sense. They aired one more episode and canceled it.

The fanservice talk reminds me of the fact that the Simpsons had an episode where Marge buffed up and another where she got breast implants, and they were in the same season.
