I love doing this same thing to older people (who are just as addicted to their phones as everyone else) and they'll almost always get a little flustered and defend their use of the phone instead of admitting that phones are good and useful.

One fun example: my husband and I did a weeklong backpacking trip together. Literally every minute in each others company. We've been together 20 years too. We ended up at a pub on the way home to load up on calories because we were loving starving. We were both on our phones checking emails from work, news, etc because we were in complete isolation from society for a drat week. The whole time this old lady was just glaring at me. "Dumb millennials on a date just ignoring eachother smdh"

I get crap about my phone use from a 63 year old friend because every time he retells some bullshit story he got from facebook with vaguely racist undertones. I google it to see what the real story is and tell him. Last time it was like "An immigrant was stealing gasoline from a local mans digger and the man caught him and when he handed him over to the police the thief was released and the local man arrested for holding him against his will." Turns out the local man and his mates set up a camera and got the thieves licence plate. They then found the car and jumped the thief and tied his hands and feet up with zip ties and left him on the ground for an hour while awaiting police. Both the thief and the man were prosecuted but the thief skipped his court date which is why he wasn't sentenced.
