I bet a lot of people itt listen to Citations Needed. They put out an episode about Neoliberal Optimism bullshit (Pinker and Gladwell etc) that is very sharp. In general I think they set a very high standard of journalistic analysis, they really are the muck-rakers of the 21st century, but my god it is getting to the point where I can't listen to a whole episode without getting impracticality angry.

I was kinda familiar with the whole thing about how World Bank poverty metrics are BS and how Pinker "massages" those numbers (Rev Left Radio and Mehdi Hassan have both done Pinker takedowns), but the commentary that really struck me this go-around was the incredible wealth outflow/imbalance from the global south to the global north, and just the basic rhetorical framing that China, for however market-liberalized it has become, did so on its own terms rather than being dictated to by the West, and how that's "worked out" for them.

I knew abstractly how neocolonialism worked, but for every 1 dollar received from the 1st world, the 3rd world loses 24 dollars was way more extreme than I'd thought.
