Haven't filed tax returns in probably 5 years, no idea how much I owe. IRS hasn't come after me yet, but I'm afraid of when they do, cause I'm pretty broke now. https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/comments/a1sq1w/havent_filed_tax_returns_in_probably_5_years_no/ quote:I worked a job making about $29,000-32,000 for about 5 or 6 years and never filed taxes for it. I knew I could get money back from returns due to low salary, but I figured I couldn't be bothered and just to let the IRS keep the extra. I don't even know where to start with this guy.

He's not going to last a week before someone breaks him out for his safety, possibly not even a couple of days. Here's a nice frontline article.

Ever been in a cave? That’s total darkness and it fucks with you big time. I’ve heard blind people can have all kinds of weird stimuli to the extent there’s medication to help them sleep. Your brain doesn’t like total darkness even if you know nothing else.

It's not just going to be the isolation, the rules are 'no light at all' so he can't have any kind of screen, nothing to read by. I guess he might be allowed some sort of audio playback as long as it doesn't emit light? That's actually surprisingly tricky, especially with modern electronics, but he could have a tapedeck or a turntable or something and at least listen to music or audiobooks. But if he didn't have the foresight to arrange that, he's not just stuck in isolation but also without really anything to do at all. There are precious few things you can do in the complete dark. Maybe knitting if you already know how, you could try some interesting blind sculpting or something? I don't think people in solitary get much in that way either but I'm not sure.

Sirotan posted:Extremely BWM because: I think he (Young) is referring to how much money it would take for him to try it himself, not necessarily how much he was willing to offer. But the other guy definitely should have asked for odds. The stipulations are no electronics, so no music player or radio or anything. If he is allowed instruments that could be pretty key (try to teach yourself guitar many hours of the day). Not knowing what time it is or how long he's been in there is a huge deal though, he should have negotiated for a mechanical clock or calendar of some kind. Maybe figure out the standard amount of evaporation from a glass of water in advance, fill it up to the top the first day and keep checking how much it has dropped? The darkness bet is so BWM. Taking on that much sensory desperation without serious meditation training is literally torture. And then taking even odds on the bet just adds on to the stupidity. You might as well bet that you can withstand 30 minutes of waterboarding for $10k.
