artsy fartsy posted:Any specific recommendations? If you go into the MSTK thread in TVIV theyll hit you up. As for my opinion and whats on Netflix of the old stuff the absolute safest choice is Space Mutiny. Manos the Hands of Fate is also in the collection and in a lot of peoples top 10 but its not as fun a movie as Space Mutiny which is a top 5 episode in my opinion.

Once upon a time, saying the name of that episode or alluding to it would lead to pages of people posting "BIFF MCROCKGROIN" and "MEAT MANCHEST"

artsy fartsy posted:Any specific recommendations? Agree with Barudak, Space Mutiny is definitely top 5 of the old series. In the new series, I've only seen half the first season but Starcrash was excellent. (I think that was the name? The one that's a blatant Star Wars rip off, starring Hasselhoff.) The only one that dragged for me was the Italian Hercules episode.

Forrest Gump is the platonic ideal of a boomer. Imagine a millenial emerging from a cave and seeing a white dude, named after the KKK founder, sidling up next to Martin Luther King on August 28, 1963 and for this reason alone being able to claim some kind of historic participation.

I live in a developing city and there are tons of construction cranes across the skyline. I have never seen a construction crane being erected or in transport. It probably all happens at 3 am BUT STILL.

I remember going to grab smokes at like 2 am some years ago and they had a whole thing near me because they were transporting a drill for a metro expansion. Makes sense to do the big stuff at night so as to avoid disturbing traffic. but ya, "self-building" cranes are pretty impressive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vx5Qt7_ECEE

This practice actually goes all the way back to (at least) the Roman Republic, where the carts full of produce and other goods were normally only allowed within the city itself at night. It also meant you really wanted to get home before the sun went down to avoid getting run over by someone's grain shipment.
