We could probably use some kind of Universal program for dental as well. Too many people can’t afford dental care and the outcomes can be awful.

I never worked with the F-35, I retired before it finished testing, so I’m only familiar with its capabilities from news reports and wikipedia. So I can’t comment on benefits outside of the normal talking points you’d see. Hell, even if I did know I’m guessing it’d still all be classified.

I remember a story where a dude went to the ER for a crippling tooth ache. He was given a prescription for antibiotics and painkillers. He could only afford one, so he opted for painkillers. He died that same night. “But if dental is free & accessible no one will have an incentive to brush their teeth or take care of themselves!” Dental health is loving important and some issues can be absolutely crippling. People often don’t have empathy until they experience it themselves. Never mind it being debt inducing. I *almost* had to make that choice in 2012 when I had a tooth split in half. I had 600 dollars to my name, period, and the grand total was like 580 bucks. I had them figure out how much each lidocaine injection costs before they did it. The only reason I got both antibiotics and painkillers was because the antibiotics were on the essential list and the pharmacist knew I was flat broke, so they were free. I still ended up getting about a third of the painkillers necessary.

Flight was about $300, root canal was $10. Awesome dentist.

it's always kind of weird that people will be like "the cost of the F-35 doesn't matter, if we didn't spend it on that its not like it would go to good things that's not how the budget works etc etc" and I always wonder why that logic can't be applied to health care unless you just want poor people to die or something

Anyone bitching about the cost of M4A can do two things. Eat the corn straight out of my rear end in a top hat, and explain why the amount we're paying for-profit industries for the travesty of a medical system we have now suddenly doesn't count when it comes to covering everyone.

Except antibiotic overprescription and underuse (not taking the full dose before stopping) is a huge public health risk wrt evolving antibiotic resistant bacteria. That said, yeah providing cheap access to necessary drugs is awesome and I support it in any way. Just hope people are using the amox responsibly. My graduate school hosed up my insurance enrollment and I didn't have dental when I thought I did. So I had a filling break and had to get an emergency root canal / crown. All in all it ran about $4500. I was only pulling in about $2k / month after taxes in grad school and had no real savings to speak of. I had to borrow about $1k from a friend just so I could make rent and keep from getting evicted. I spent the next 8 months living on essentially rice and beans etc just to get back to normal and make the rest of the payments. I looked into suing my school but that would have cost more $$$ and with an unsure outcome. I didn't want punitive damages, I just wanted them to fix what they hosed up (did not actually enroll me in the poo poo I was supposed to be enrolled in). It loving sucked and without a richer friend to bail me out I would have become homeless just because a loving root canal.

man, where can we ever save money and cut costs in this country? 🤔 heavily downsize the mil, decrease deployment tempo (especially for the Navy), make the Marines a reserve force, close a lot of overseas bases, stop being a subsidized military for other countries but then we wouldn’t have our Starship Troopers forever war society so 🤷🏽♀️

I'm not even sure the insurance industry would be that opposed to it, either, since removing the requirement that they cover high risk people would lower their overhead a ton and allow them to focus on selling supplemental insurance.
