Edit: My absolute favorite mission remains the one against the Steel Beast, without cheating. Takes forever, but what a wonderful feeling to finally defeat that challenge.

CFixes, our community typo mod/patch is finally ready. We fixed things like missing PPC status effect on all ER-PPCs, Crabs being too slow, max CT armor on the Trebuchet being too low and a ton of other game play and typo edits.

Give the fixed skirmish pilots with 6 Piloting a run. They now gain +1 Pips of Evasion like their SP counterparts. This allows more cavalry options and could put a higher value on bringing Sensor Lock pilots in PvP.

finally picked the game up again in the run-up to the new patch and i must say, i'm very glad i did. playing with settings close to what kiva called "the right way to play" on one stream, afair: ironman, 5 parts to salvage a mech, mechs come empty, ct kills.

i do wish there was like a 10% chance for pilots to auto-eject unharmed when the CT is destroyed. poor medusa. other than that, i'm pretty happy with these settings. it's a lot slower going, but has produced tons of drama already. isildur, great job on the design.

anyway, today i finally clicked through my people's exposition dialogs and found this one. brought a smille, just like the other many references. :love:

two PPCs and a hatchet is probably the most :black101: thing you're going to get out of this 'mech. maybe large lasers if you're not cool enough for PPCs.

That's not what's happening. Project Phoenix designs are the official look of designs post 3060 or so; the original Unseen were removed but never actually replaced (which is why you get a bunch of black silhouettes in TROs).

The new Classics are replacing the Unseen and will co-exist with Project Phoenix designs.

I like this better, it can still make at least 2 jumps and fire before overheating and has room for more armor and a melee mod.

They already have! We started calling attention to these about a month ago and when 1.3 dropped we had to remove every single SP/Career pilotdef traits error, that was easily half the files corrected by HBS (probably fromuch earlier bug report threads) and Isildur mentioned in this thread about fixing the Holly SRMs and I think the absurd turret armor on the softest APCs. I don't really know exactly how much was due to us four posting and pestering, but what matters is that it gets reported and eventually fixed.

As for these post 1.3 fixes specifically, I can hope they make it in to a hotfix (the crab movedef if anything) but I'd expect to have to wait till 1.4 if anything.

What rest of the space? 2 PPCs plus 4 JJs is already heavy enough it can't even fully armor up while fitting it. And "a few" is one, since a shot is net 40 heat, nevermind doing it while jumping.

Really, the best loadout is a PPC or AC5 plus a Large Laser.

That's basically what stopped me from doing it. That and I'm really hesitant to preorder stuff thanks to how hosed up and scummy the games industry is these days. If the price was closer to giving a 50% discount then I probably would have purchased it. HBS is one of the few companies that I actually trust (along with the Stellaris and Witcher guys).

That said the poor stability and bugs of this update has made me question if they belong in that category, or if they're closer to the "trust but verify" level.

Well, HBS = "the Stellaris guys" so they should be doubly trustworthy! Paradox is the company that makes Stellaris and they own HBS.

I bought the season's pass and have no regrets. I think I also got it during the 25% off sale, but I'd have paid full price for it if I missed the sale.

So far I'm having a good time with the expansion, though I do agree that the first Steiner flashpoint is crazy difficult. The escort part is fine, I got through it with only losing my best mechwarrior to a random headshot (just an injury but still out for the next battle) but the base defense doesn't seem to be winnable with a 2.5 star lance. You get hamstrung by having to take a stock hatchetman into battle which the enemy focus fires with a fury, and that means it dies real fast since it has no armor. Then you have to fight 8 mediums, a heavy and a light with your remaining 3 decent mechs all while they just take out building after building while you are trying to take out mechs. I think you need a full heavy lance to do it, unless you get real lucky with taking out mechs (my run, the Hunchback in the first engagement had 0 armor on any spot and just wouldn't lose anything important turn after turn and then the Thunderbolt did the same thing, by the time I got them down and turned to take out the added groups, I was down to 1 building left in the base.)

Based solely on this one, I would say you should rate the flashpoint difficulty about 1 - 1/2 stars above what it actually says before trying to take them on.

If you really want to, go to BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\simGameConstants and edit the SimGameConstants.json. You are looking for the "Finances" section and will see these settings:

code:
   "Finances" : {

		"ContractTypeMod_AmbushConvoy" : 0.8,
		"ContractTypeMod_Assassinate" : 0.8,
		"ContractTypeMod_CaptureBase" : 1.0,
		"ContractTypeMod_CaptureEscort" : 1.2,
		"ContractTypeMod_DefendBase" : 1.2,
		"ContractTypeMod_DestroyBase" : 0.8,
		"ContractTypeMod_Rescue" : 0.4,
		"ContractTypeMod_SimpleBattle" : 1.0,

Lower the values of CaptureEscort and DefendBase to 0.0 and you should be good once you travel to a new place. You could also increase the HP of the building in the BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\buildings folder to whatever level you want, but destroy base will also use them. It really doesn't matter though, as I always kill everything in Dest.Base before touching the buildings. It would just become time consuming depending on how high you set the HP.

Unfortunately all this did for me was lower the payout in C-bills for these contract types to zero.

I was looking in the wrong file entirely, my bad. You got to go in to BATTLETECH\BattleTech_Data\StreamingAssets\data\contracts\ and change the "weight" : 1, to 0.0 or 0.1 according to others on the modder discord. That should do it, but let me know if that doesn't work. The two contract folders you want are defendbase and captureescort.

Holy poo poo this. Mr. tactical genius brings 2 pure energy mechs to a dang moon and neither one of them are close to capable of handling the heat they give off.

Also, a few minor thoughts from about 50% of the way through a career mode playthrough.

1. If HBS wants to keep adding more enemy mechs you can't salvage post mission this is fine but please mark them so I know not to baby them for no reason (Looking at you, modified stalker)

2. Bulwark/Master Tac is still far and away the best skill pairing, evasion simply doesn't work for players the way it can for the ai any time you have to fight more than 4 other enemies which is most of the time.

Justice ain't gonna dispense itself.
I beat the stiener op tonight just barely running 2 srm brawler mediums, the hatchetman and a single heavy. The hatchetman ate it because of some bad luck but it wasn't my mech or pilot so I didn't care much. Had the 2 brawlers and the hatchet engage and destroy the initial Lance that shows up. Meanwhile my heavy advanced up the hill to where the first reinforcements spawn; when they did I attacked 2 of them with the heavy which usually gets them to fight instead of beelining for the base. I had banked up morale so I could prec shot the other 2 who ran by from behind with my heavy and core them. I'm not sure if it was good luck or bad luck but the final Lance that spawned was 3 vehicles and a dragon. They shot lrms at the buildings the whole fight and killed most of them but didn't actually make it into the fight before the timer ran out.

Definitely a lot more challenging than the 2 1/2 skulls advertised. I think I had 2 buildings left both on sub 50 hp and if either had died I would have lost.

The flash points seem to skew harder, probably because you’re juggling objectives. My rule of thumb now is I try to have a core lance that can take half a skull harder, and a couple backup mechs that are minor downgrades at worst.

Really wish you could disable Darius' "we're just about through our nest egg commander" message. I end up regularly going down to half a million after every financial report in career mode because you don't get the cash pinatas of the campaign so Darius whines ever month like clockwork even though it's not a problem because I'm already on the way to the next contract and even if worst comes to worst, I can just sell some old mechs.

Also, juggling faction reputations is kinda annoying. Doing missions for local governments just annoys other factions while the opposite has no negative effects. Pirates just seem destined to hate you since they rarely offer missions and other factions target them most of the time.

I like running all machine guns and small lasers. They have just enough range that, combined with the firestarter's mobility, you can easily get into firing range if you can't melee and when you can melee you'll fire all eight support weapons too for insane damage.
