Those players would be insanely good if they were normal men, but they're all loving huge monsters too. More powerful than Ronaldo, more skillful than Messi, fuckin hell. There's no irl player with that combo of height and agility let alone those technical stats as well, and I think I'm melting down about you having two of the fuckers

Is it just me finding FM19 a lot easier than previous versions? I've played 4 seasons as West Ham, and have won the League Cup 3 times, the Europa League twice, the Premier League and the FA Cup once each. I haven't won the Champions League but idk if i really care about that at this point, so uh does anyone have any recommendations on a good challenge I should take up?

There is always the standard Wales, Gibraltar, Iceland, San Marino, and dafuge challenges. They're pretty good but I always get worn out doing them because the grind is too much. The longest I made it was 10 seasons in Gibraltar before I gave up. My best result was the Champions League group stage.

Anyways, how about going to some random country you haven't managed in before like Hong Kong or Indonesia?

I managed the Gibraltar challenge in whatever the latest version it was before that was an included league, it took like 20 years or something and I brought on a dude I had in my first season for the CL final which fuckin ruled.

Hong Kong got me thinking that trying to win the China Super League with a fully domestic team could be fun though

There's always the classic Bilbao challenge (Basque and/or Spanish U18s only).

Has anyone noticed that defenders are incredibly good at blocking crosses all of a sudden. I'm Arsenal, playing Shrewsbury, and I've literally just seen 10 crosses blocked in the first half alone. I'm pretty sure I don't remember that being much of a thing in previous versions. Looking at the first 35 minutes, the only crosses that have been completed are corners.

It's a known bug since, like, months ago. To try to get things balanced first they broke movement of attacking midfielders, then they made wide players stop and wait for defenders to catch up before crossing.

Once again the first beta match engine was objectively so much better.

Low crosses in the box were the broken tactic last year so of course they were changed to being completely useless this year

On an unrelated note, is there a list anywhere of the hardcoded behaviors of the different specialist roles (for example, mezzala/carrilero)? As an example, if I understand correctly, you can give a CM the same instructions as the mezzala, but their actions won't match up because of these hidden behaviors.

I've not found any issues with low crosses, any half-decent striker will score 1 in 2 in my set up, half of from low crosses getting smashed at them and the other half from going clean through after a 50 yard pass from some shitclogger defender

I think the bar for Wingers being god-tier is higher than it was last year.
In FM18, you could put some proper garbage at MR and as long as your strikers were half-decent, you'd score a bunch. This season - so far at least - it looks like you need actually talented players to get it to work consistently.

A lot of English coaches don't have easy access to the internationally recognised coaching qualifications through the English FA. So in FM terms they've still got a lot to learn even though they have everything they need in a practical sense for coaching in England.

Most prospective young managers do their courses through the Welsh FA setup these days because it's the proper continental job so they can manage anywhere when they're done.

Haha, so my Krasnodar side who seemingly can't create anything and had to rely on a horrible own goal to beat the bottom side last week just went to Old Trafford and won 3-2 with something like 20 shots. I know complacency is a factor and Man Utd will play differently against me compared to a bunch of Siberian farmers but I always find that FM overeggs this kind of thing a bit. Like in FM14 I met Man Utd in the FA cup, they played their under 19s and their reserve goalie in central midfield and we won 8-1.

Emery is at Man Utd in my save. Just lost in Kazan after dominating and one of my best players missed a completely open goal in the last minutes, leaving my expensive squad top of the hardest Champions League group I've ever had but lower-mid table in the tinpot Russian league. This save has just been every bit of bullshit FM can serve up in 20 games.

Just played a preseason friendly against Everton in my lower-league game (we were just promoted from National League North to the National League and will probably be relegated back down at the end of the season), and held it to a 3-3 draw thanks to two own goals they scored.

There were six goals scored in the match and Everton scored five of them.

I like to see out my saves to the bitter end but I'm praying for the sack on my FM18 save.

I spent £130M and have a wage bill three times higher than anyone else and I get this:

Yeah, yeah, it's my tactics but I can't find a tactic that will allow my expensive squad to put away relegation candidates at home. I've had slumps and bad seasons before but always pull it round (well, apart from Tranmere in FM10 but they were poo poo).

e: Just lost 1-0 to CSKA, who were down to 10 men, the board have set me a points target of 13 points from the next 5 games or I get the sack, I don't think I'm even going to bother attempting it. I played a standard 4-1-2-2-1 wide with fluid structure and no shouts, we conceded when my CB passed the ball directly to their centre forward and my strikers missed two absolute sitters. It's really weird, like every member of my squad apart from my main striker is totally incompetent. Constant hoofed passes to nobody when they have options, shots from stupid distances, missing open goals. Like I say, it's not like I have them set to some ultra-attacking formation where the tempo will be really high and players will be roaming all over the place. I even tried some slow, patient defensive football to curb it, but far from the stylish pass-and-move you can get from it, my highly-rated players interpreted it as 'going to stand here and do nothing until I get tackled lmao'.

We're on course to qualify from a champions league group of Lazio, Man Utd and Schalke, though. What a weird, weird save. Will probably get FM19 and do an unemployed sunday league start, intend to play in different leagues but get overly attached to the first team I have any modicum of success with.

If you've got a good squad, you've got a couple of options to deal with relegation-fodder who park the bus
1) Go Cautious, give them a bit more space, spread your team wide, make sure you have 2-3 players in the box as well as a couple hanging around outside. Oh, and get a big lump up front, so that you have a chance of scoring from crosses
2) Go full psychotic Gegenpress; Very High Line of Engagement, Very Urgent Pressing, High Defensive Line, Prevent Goalkeeper Short Distribution, specific Closing Down instructions for the opposition defenders (plus Goalkeeper). Just make sure at least one of your DCs is super-quick, otherwise you'll concede a poo poo-ton on the Counter, and having a big lump up front wouldn't hurt in that situation either

It's pretty frustrating to play against those kind of teams and it seems kinda anachronistic to have to resort to aiming crosses at the reincarnation of Duncan Ferguson, but it can work

Any advice for drawing, but not outright losing, against teams you should by all rights beat? I'm trying to avoid promotion (I was just promoted to National League last year and don't want to immediately follow that with a promotion to League Two, especially since I've still got two guys on the first team who are amateurs being paid literally nothing), but I don't want to outright throw too many matches, and I've been completely destroying most of the teams I've faced so far. I could just choose deliberately bad tactics, put all the players in the wrong positions, and finish somewhere mid-table, but I'm worried about the resulting hits to reputation and team morale - so instead I'm looking for deliberately mediocre tactics. I've been running a heavily offensive-focused 4-3-1-2 with two extremely good young strikers (by this league's standards, anyway) and a drat good attacking midfielder; I concede a lot of goals, but I score so often it hasn't really mattered.

Use instructions to do the opposite of what you normally do? If you normally go route one, put on retain possession, short passing etc or do the opposite. If you have highly skilled passes and can retain possession welcome to hoofing it into the corner and pinging in crosses instead of short passes and slow build up.

A question and a tip:

Do attacking players need concentration if you're not asking them to defend (for example, an advanced forward or trequartista)?

FYI, if you ever want to see a cross completed, never select "Low Crosses". Found that out the hard way.
