I wouldn't go out of your way to read it but if you're looking to muck around in the blind alleys of post-Davis Excalibur, it's a good little run to check out. That book went some weird places after Davis leaves. There the bits where it's holding close to the other X-books and then sometimes it reads like it was never touched by an editor before publication.

Excalibur: His first act was to add a hard-bitten, hard-drinking, chain-smoking, caustic Essex man named Thor: Much of the story centers around a hard-bitten, hard-drinking, chain-smoking, caustic Englishman named The twist in Hellstorm is that the lead character wasn't British, he was just a hard-drinking/chain-smoking rear end in a top hat who thought superheroes were dumb and stupid and childish and had a really hot industrial/goth girlfriend. In Ultraforce, the twist was that it was an older hardcore cool dude who all of the chicks loved, like Jarvis except more badass. In Doom 2099 the twist was that basically all of the characters that weren't Doom were this.

I feel like that's been a thing for a while, because Karnak had its share of "see he's an rear end in a top hat to everyone and now he's alone drinking a glass of water and being really sad about it"

Show Charles Bukowski as "word proccessor" and he'd crack a loving lager bottle over your skull. Don't trust computers! TYPEWRITERS OR BUST!" Obviously Ellis's views have evolved on that topic, and I imagine they've evolved on how wonderful it would be to live life as a more cartoonish version of John Constantine. Though the computers remembered, which is assume why he lost all his work on all of those projects that never finished/got severely delayed over the course of a decade or so.

Two of his creator-owned books at Image (Injection and Trees) hit 15 and 14 issues respectively over the course of a couple of years, no idea if they're done or just delayed at this point, neither has had a new issue in over a year. His James Bond comic (which hinges largely upon the definition of "Eidolon" being a big dramatic reveal) ran for twelve issues.

According to Ellis's newsletter, it's because Jordie Bellaire's Redlands ended up being more popular than expected, so her time's been at a premium, and Shalvey ended up on a signing tour that's taken up a lot of his year. Shalvey's also done a lot of incidental work for Marvel in the meantime, like the Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan mini. As a result, the between-arcs break they'd always planned on ended up extending to the entirety of 2018, and they're planning to finish Injection in 2019.

Reading the original Howard stories, there's a lot less misogyny than you'd expect from the genre and especially the time period. The stories where Conan is part of her crew are pretty interesting. The crew is all men and they all follow her orders without any compunction, even Conan who actually respects her. The crew is either mixed or all black, which would be cool as well, but one of these stories takes place in Hyperborean Africa where there are literal monstrous dark skinned cannibal ape-men. So, that kind of ruins things.
