The people declaring the death of the GOP are absolutely doing so prematurely. Those demographic changes are real, but demographic changes are generational changes, which take a generation. The youngest boomers are around 60. So its still going to be 20+ years before that shift is really entrenched.

I'm not sure how diverse this thread is, but I've noticed that as a white male it is really easy for crazy racist poo poo to just not come up for me to notice in my day-to-day life. I've got a story that really highlights it from when I was in the Army. I worked with another white male who was a bit of a poo poo-head but had never expressed anything like that. One thing to keep in mind though is that like 40% of men and 50+% of women are non-white in the Army. So one day he is working evening shift and I'm working night shift, and during the hand-off he just mentions, all casual like that the only reason he wasn't promoted at his last duty station was because his sergeant was a black woman. Considering how poo poo he was at the job, the reason he wasn't promoted definitely had nothing to do with that. It sort of blew my mind that just because I was another white guy he thought that I would be totally understanding of his view (instead I went and asked to not have to work with him if they could at all help it). He didn't even really know me, as I had barely worked with him and never hung out with him. So going around in general, if you're a white guy and not racist, and you're not viewing people's interactions with people of color, it can be surprisingly easy to not know how many goddamn pieces of poo poo are still out there. When you read things like that headline defending nazi-man (or at least obfuscating that he's a nazi), it can feel like it is coming out of left field. I know there are some not-white people in this thread and I kind of wonder if it'll blow their minds that there are people who genuinely thought that this crazy racist poo poo was relegated to backwoods kkk people and well on the way to the dustbin of history. Seeing these people crawl out of the woodwork with trump is just depressing, and I really hope you guys overall have better experiences than 10-20 years ago. Like it was bad enough to have the crazy racists ranting about Obama, but trump just seems to pull out the casual people who say poo poo like "my family didn't own slaves, do you know how much you used to cost?!"
