If you are curious, they work by putting electricity to the liquid crystals aligning them in tiny rows to allow you to see through it (why it is still kinda hazy on cheaper models) and when there is no electricity the crystals "relax" into a random pattern filling up the film making them opaque. So if there is ever a power failure to the control unit the glass goes opaque.
