he just used that phrase or something like it in his past eps a bunch. but ya hes pretty dangerous imo due to his weird magical thinking, apocalyptic ranting, misogyny, climate change denial, non-evidence based psychological theories, etc. the only thing he says worthwhile is stand up straight and clean your room but you can get that from pretty much anywhere. he grifts young undersexed men by giving them scapegoats to point to for their problems like sjws and women.

also he’s a loving weasel who will make a bunch of descriptive claims and stop just short of his super regressive idea so that he claim he never said that or your are misinterpreting him

Eg. JP: sexual harassment exists in the workplace. Women wear makeup in the workplace. Make up is used to emulate sexual response in women to attract men.

Anyone with a brain: so you think we should ban makeup in the workplace?

JP: whoa I never said that don’t put words in my mouth I just am saying we need to talk about these things!

He really doesn’t really want to have a conversation about this since the conversation he is having with any interviewer dies right there. If the interviewer presses him, he will just ramble on about nonsense. He’d rather just lay those descriptive claims out and let you, the listener, take that last step. He gets to call out his detractors as misinterpreting him and his followers can go about trying to achieve his aim.

gently caress Peterson and gently caress Rogan for bringing this dude on over and over again with no opposition. Joe is too stupid to understand what is going on and probably doesn’t really care but at least have someone opposed across the table. Peterson got trounced in the one debate I ever saw him take part in vs some atheist professor. Peterson was visibly squirming in his chair like the worm he was. Shove this dude in a locker.

I must be as dumb as rogan cuz I didn’t get the impression he was trying to insinuate anything sexist like that. He is definitely targeting a demographic for attention/sales, but taking a side and creating a boogeyman is kind of par for the course for anyone talking politics in 2018. I’ll have to look up some of his interviews. The only one I remember is that “so what you’re saying is...” woman they discuss in this episode.

He also advocated forced marriages so that incels got laid and would stop shooting things, obviously he also thinks it is women's fault that incels murder them.

My favorite old episodes were Anthony Bourdain and Kevin Smith’s first appearance. I want to suggest Joey Diaz, Bert, and Burr episodes from the ep 100-200 range, but if you’re a fan now, the stories won’t be anything new. The first time Bert tells the machine story is ep 95.

I want to suggest the Ms Pat episode, but can’t remember if she was funnier on JRE or Bertcast. Whichever one it was, my stomach hurt from laughing. Another one I remember liking is that guy from the TechTV show with Olivia Munn. He’s kind of a dingus on that tech show but I remember really enjoying the podcast convo.

Oh and if you’re unfamiliar with the pre-Young Jame days, you may be turned off by the original sound engineer Redban. He’s annoying and would often times interrupt really interesting guests by randomly blurting out things like “poopy butthole Applebee’s hehehe”.

Edit: apologies if I inadvertently walked you into a “see the great thing about podcasting is...” conversation lol. It happened a lot even back then. Still better than trans female MMA bone structure convo I guess

As for real recommendations I find a lot of peoples enjoyment in the show is heavily dictated by the guest. Joe is a good interviewer but this isn't a "comedy podcast" so it's not like there is common thread that runs through episodes besides Joe. I would recommend Wim Hof's first appearance (episode 712), Justin Wren's first appearance (episode 603), John Wayne Parr's episode (714), and any Dr. Rhonda Patrick episode. Those are a wide spread of people that showcase what I believe to be the best parts about Joe's show, compelling characters with interesting stories and information/experiences you rarely hear about.

Loveline is probably considered extremely low brow trash, even in the world of radio but there was nothing as magical on radio as that late 90s to early 2000s loveline run. It was such great radio. Anytime I go somewhere and a person has their smoke detector batteries beeping it drives me crazy and immediately reminds me of the games they would play with those people. "If you had to guess, how high would you say your doorframe is...."

it's not so much that in rogan's case I think, it's more to do with him living a completely non-normal life. his friend's don't have normal people problems. they have comedian problems. so he assumes everyone lives a charmed life like himself because his life is constantly charmed.

I mean rogan had money from fear factor, so at episode 1 he was already rich. I just think it's more that Rogan has become a father figure to a click of people who wouldn't have career without him, and they aren't going to disturb the gravy train, so of course Rogan is the smartest person they know. i kind of thought about it a while back when he started having the conservative shitheads on more and more

and his father thing sort of explains at least in my head why he absolutely has a blindspot for people like Peterson. Peterson's entire thing is daddy figure to misguided males. The only time Rogans ever mentioned his dad was in a negative context, how he beat his mom, how he basically has never been nor will be a part of his life.

So go figure Rogan's become a father figure to a group of men who themselves wouldn't exist in their lives without Rogan, so they're stuck, and than Rogan in trying to help guide his new found tribe, seeks what he thinks are smart men, but Rogan is a bitch when it comes to people questioning his intelligence, especially anytime college anything is mentioned, like at this point you'd have to be ignoring not to see that Rogan is insecure about being dumb, so the grifter also sort of stroke his ego a bit

people like Peterson wouldn't exist without Rogan helping them, but they're actually smart and grifters, unlike his gently caress up comedians, so in Rogan's stupid head, by having a smart responsible figure like Peterson, he's helping his audience.

and not exposing them to a stupid persons idea of what a smart person is, whose entire gimmick is selling answers to your life. I mean the fucker on his second trip literally jokes about figuring out how to monetize outrage to joe and nothing about this even is remotely hosed up to Rogan, in Rogan's head this is a good smart man, so obviously he should be paid for his hard labor. And the conversation moves on. Rogan's famed ablility to detect women's crazy from a mile away, can't see that a grifter just admitted to the grift, wasn't even being vague about it.

As you age you either have people in your life that challange you a bit and give you push back, or you become further entrenched in your own bullshit. I've only ever seen this upclose when I worked at a retirement home in college. the cool grandmas and grandpas weren't stuck up and generally still acted like anyone my age at that time, just wrinklier. They didn't pontificate about knowledge as if being old had given them any sort of wisdom. goddamn i miss mr. larson, rest in peace buddy.

You're both right, Rogan was a good podcast

I honestly think it was when he had Ham Sarris on for the first time that it started changing. In my mind that was the start of the reactionary shitheads who are seriously stupid themselves, giving Joe this inflated sense of intelligence by proxy.

But maybe it's just because I hate Harris so much that it taints my memory of it. But there is a distinct change in Rogan that happend between the 'whoa do you ever think about' days to the 'man political correctness is run amok' and almost comical references to animals doing stupid poo poo.

And on a side note, Rogan was alive and a practicing comedian in the loving 90s when this political correctness bullshit first reared it's ugly head in conservative media. Surprise surprise it was all bluster and the end of the world and culture as we know it didn't happen. So how the gently caress is this rear end in a top hat, twice now in his life, going through the same existential crisis about college students run amok.

Sam Harris is a pretty good line in the sand for when I really lost interest in JRE.

Prior to that I would only be skipping psychedelic, Onnit and libertarian episodes but that really was a point where it seemed like every second guest was some reactionary online personality and even episodes with people from BJJ, MMA, entertainment, etc would be full of culture warrior bullshit.

There's really something disingenuous about it all. Joe has this act like 'I'm just a meathead and people are talking about this guy, I just want to hear what he has to say aww shucks.' When there's any criticism of the people using his podcast as a platform it's just 'Barbara Walters had Fidel Castro on her show' and that's supposed to be that. I don't think Barbara Walters had Castro on here show every 6 weeks, constantly fellated him and promoted his agenda on every platform available and then posted Instagram pics of them buddying it up.

The worst part is being in BJJ and seeing dozens of personal acquaintances go from being apathetic white collar nerds who want to pretend to be UFC fighters 3x a week to being super vocal about this reactionary anti-trans and anti-gender identity malarkey or whatever people are raving about on the podcast. These young guys that couldn't tell you who their local member is in the federal lower house, but have detailed knowledge about some skirmish over a university speaking event in the USA 15,000kms away because they've consumed about 12 hours of JRE discussion about it.
