Also wasn’t his apology more along the lines of “Don’t get caught”?

Since I doubt it will advance and it deserves a little more attention here are some of the details of the contract clause and Bryan's situation (Plus Rey's which will come up sooner or later in the tournament.)

https://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2016/09/07/legal-maneuvers-daniel-bryan-freezing-wwe-contracts/

Important points: Before being frozen Bryan asked for his release. It was indefinite until he came back as GM and Dave reported that it was being done to make sure he couldn't go anywhere else while he still had some star power.

This is the toughest one so far, but I went with Bryan's contract because it ties with the overall labor abuses that has been WWE's bred and butter since Vince Jr. took over. America loves a "redeemed" man story so Hogan returning was inevitable but the contract freezing is a novel way of exploiting people. Ask me again in 20 minutes and I might say Hogan. It's that close.

Went with the Bryan thing as I will likely go with the worker's rights issues almost everytime as a reflection of our grotesque Oligarchic society.
As awful and needless as the Hogan thing is it didn't directly gently caress up somebody's life/career.
I don't think.
And at least it led to the glorious schadenfraude moment of Hogan doing his whole bullshit crowd pandering thing to dead silence at Crown Jewel.
I'm certainly not going to be mad if Hogan wins though.

Tough one but Hogan literally said on that sex tape "I am a racist" before going on a racist tirade. The Bryan thing is lovely but it's more egregious what they did to Rey Mysterio who is also in this tourney.

Not sure who is more to blame for the Hogan thing.
Hogan for being a huge racist.
Or HHH for going out of his way to enable him.
I mean if not for HHH, HH would just fade into obscurity and irrelevance.
Good thing nobody can be arsed to hold WWE to any kind of moral standard.

This is my current thinking but I voted Hogan already. It is really close. The link MRT posted kinda pushed me back in the other direction, that's so horrible they literally could have just kept Bryan under contract like, forever. Or until he was too old to go wrestle elsewhere. Or whatever

I feel like at some point WWE became so onerous that our attitude shifted towards 'better to die in New Japan than live in WWE'
The fact that he's been medically cleared and has been wrestling without dying for the last 8 months is another mind changer.

STOP DOING HEROIN
The medical "concern" was always bullshit and Bryan knew it, which is why he tried getting out of his contract in the first place. WWE only cared in the sense that they didn't want him making another company money.

SLUM KING

Didn't Bryan do a bunch of interviews saying that being around the business was too painful so he enrolled in school and was gonna try and build a life outside the business and then WWE blew that up by booking him as the Smackdown GM?

That was enough to get my vote. Even though maybe he was working and was definitely gonna come back sooner or later...that's fuckin' gross.

I went with Brock for the intent. The Mexicools were ostensibly meant to be a send up of stereotypes and it was just executed in the poorest way possible. The Brock incident was just asking one employee to injure another.

Yeah, he was looking to move away from the business if they weren't going to let him wrestle, so they booked him for SD to keep him touring and thus on the hook. WWE are shitlords.

He punched Strowman really hard in the face as a result of Strowman legit kneeing him in the face. That's justice.

Gotta go for the reckless endangerment of their own workers in direct contradiction of everything they pretend to give a poo poo about. The Mexicools is just a more overt version of the racism they do every day.

I can understand why people would vote for the racist angle but i voted brock because its typical of the dodgy business practices of the wwe especially with employee (i mean independent contractor) relations

They dont want blading because it runs counter to their corporate image but they want blood for whatever reason so they have Brock hardway Orton so they maintain it was an accident or whatever. Also they tried to work the dressing room after the match.

To compound the issue i dont know if anyone remembers but Lesner failed a USADA drug test for steroids in the lead up to summerslam 2016 and the wwe basically said yeah we dont test part timers so we cant punish him a year after they fired Billy Gunn for failing a drug test in a power lifting meet

It's a receipt, but still lovely to have so obviously stiffed a relatively green wrestler for a mistake, it's unprofessional.

I voted for the mauling. They told Brock (more than once) to go out there and just maul another human being, loving madness. If they'd actually learned their lesson it wouldn't have gotten my vote, but he hosed up Roman at Wrestlemania too, amongst other incidents. It's just so loving stupid, and really makes you understand the Bryan Alvarez-Filthy Tom argument they had- Tom thought people should learn to hit as hard as they possibly can so they can hit less than that, Bryan quite strongly said "I don't want to be touched at all during a match".

Voted for developmental abuses because gently caress Bill DeMott and gently caress HHH for enabling him.
If Harley loving Race is pissed at you for abusing people under the name of being a hardass, then you are an apex shithead.
HHH probably heard a bunch of gross road stories from Flair (and others) and just thought it was the coolest poo poo ever and saw Demott as a callback to that.

Went with developmental abuses. The Benoit madness was a company trying to distance itself from a grisly murder and a lot of denial is involved for any company trying to do that. Hiring someone to specifically torture the most vulnerable employees who can't say anything for fear of ruining their entire career is a remarkably lovely thing to do.
