Finally saw Good Time, the Robert Pattinson heist film soundtracked by Oneohtrix Point Nevet. Amazing soundtrack and further proof that Pattison is one of the most underrated actors.

It's tv, but anyone who watched Legion and dug those trippy covers they did should listen to the album "It's Always Blue: Songs from Legion". It's on Spotify. It's really good, and I quite like their cover of White Room by Cream.

I haven't seen the actual show but the soundtrack for The First is by Colin Stetson and it is extremely good Also writing this made me look up the soundtrack for hereditary and I do not remember there being that much music in that movie lol

Most of it is spooky noises and soundscapes, it's not very memorable. Except for this piece, mostly because that scene barely has dialogue or sound effects to let the mindfuck sit in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVnSFj6XQZY

So it seems like a bunch of different scores have been disqualified from getting nominated for the Best Original Score Oscar for a variety of different reasons, ranging from hilarious to bullshit: https://variety.com/2018/music/awards/scores-ruled-ineligible-for-oscar-green-room-solo-1203085221/ For example, John Powell's score for Solo: A Star Wars story (the best part of the film IMO) is ineligible because they forgot to submit it in time. But the worst one is Johann Johannsson's score for Mandy, which is ineligible because the entire film is in fact ineligible as it went to VOD 'too soon' to count as having a proper theatrical release. It's kind of bullshit that Johann Johannsson's last score - which is amazing - gets a massive snub because the Academy is mad that something went to digital while it was still in theatres.

That reminds me of the Oscars ceremony from a few years ago, when theatrical attendance had started seeing a decent decline, that was three and a half hours of "why we love going to the movies."

They've been doing these Hollywood in Vienna concerts for a few years, playing live a varied selection of pieces from movies, though now each concert seems to focus on a single film composer's body of work with medleys from various scores, and it was Zimmer's turn last year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NXCG87HmbQ Gotta say, the orchestra's on loving point. A few times it was so close I had to wonder if it was playback straight from the score or something. I recommend checking out the others, there's Horner, Elfman, Newton-Howard plus a few themed ones like Space, Mystery etc. Good stuff. E: Man I'd forgotten how gorgeous "To Every Captive Soul" from Hannibal was.

I've seen Evolution way more than I've ever watched X-3. Which I've seen like twice. It's a good score. But it's not my favorite of his like it is for so many others. Solo is pretty incredible though. First CD I bought in a long time because I need something good to have in my car in case my phone runs out of service.

I like his Bourne stuff too, I should say. But X3 is my favorite if his by far. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIOiDhUxXsA There's a lot of good stuff there but that's the highlight for me. The Phoenix theme is rad as hell. Also X-Men 3 is an underrated movie.

Fair enough. I should say that it's absolutely a flawed movie, and many of the flaws are blatantly obvious, but it's no way near as bad as people make it out to be. And it has a great score!

Article did not feature Spawn The Album, worthless. Also, I can’t read the name John Powell without thinking of “Bim Bam Smash” from The Bourne Supremacy. I think I could write an essay on why I like that song. It works as a stand alone, but if you start listening to the soundtrack (and that of The Bourne Identity) you realize that it is like a culmination (ooh, fancy word) of several musical themes.

I didn't care much for the How to Train Your Dragon movies but that score is pretty dang good. iTunes just random-played some of James Newton-Howard's King Kong soundtrack and while I like the film way more than it probably deserves, the score is goddamn solid on its own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXhtoK-IZvo

Video game music I know, but I have to give Paul Ruskay credit for making some absolutely killer scores for the Homeworld games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTl7O1BEPXE To tie this back to Film/Television scores, you'd be deaf not to hear the massive influence Ruskay's Homeworld music had on Bear Mccreary's score for Battlestar Galactica.
