Watching you sleep.

Butt first, let's
check the feeds.

I fell asleep during Mandy.

I should probably give it another watch sometime when I'm maybe not as frayed but I just don't think I'm feeling Cosmatos. Don't get me wrong, I understand the appeal. He makes incredible beautiful imagery and moody pieces but that's not really enough for me and not really a style that pulls me in. And that's not a knock. There's plenty of moody pieces that rely on imagery and soundtrack that do work for me. But like Cosmatos' style just doesn't click for me. Its nice to look at, its technically impressive, but an hour in I was kind of exhausted and waiting for Nick Cage to do something. But then I couldn't keep my eyes open during the second half.

Like I said, I'll give it another watch sometime when I can actually stay awake and I assume the second half of the film should capture me more. But its possible I just don't like Panos Cosmatos.

I have used 41 of 300 characters allowed.
Watched ATM last night and it was surprisingly fun, but definitely very unrealistic. Cool to see Josh Peck be an rear end in a top hat though.

Also re-watched Vampire’s Kiss today and it gets made fun of a lot but it really is a fun and good movie. Horrific things definitely happen in it so I still consider it horror. I really like the idea that nic cage got rabies from that run in with the bat at the beginning, and the rest of the movie are a result of the effects.

Yeah, what Lord of Booty said, give it another shot. What you say makes total sense, but I thought Mandy had a lot of plot and character to go along with the straight-up visuals. At least compared to Beyond the Black Rainbow (which is also fantastic).

I also fell asleep during my first viewing, but it was more to do with me and less about the film.

However, on my second viewing, I felt that the film does exactly what it sets out to do, but it just didn't work for me as much as I hoped.

It's funny that you call him "that guy from the poster" because that's brought up often in the interview, like that's how Michael Berryman's career took off. He was always "that guy from the Hills Have Eyes poster". Hell, I didn't realize until watching the Joe Bob hosted Hills Have Eyes that I've never seen the original movie, just the remake. It was because of that poster that I had convinced myself that I'd seen the original. I mentally inserted Michael Berryman into parts of the remake and thought that I'd seen the original too.

Or maybe I had... :psyduck:

So I know a lot of y'all know a lot about the Alien films so I have a question that myself and my employee stuck in this closed casino all night have been discussing:

What purpose does the second, smaller mouth serve? Does it eat? Is it the primary way that the xenomorph eats?

I always took it as something similar to the tentacle tongues of a graboid: more like a (possibly venomous) weaponized grapple that latches onto something/pierces it and pulls it in. But I've literally only watched the movies, I'm sure it's been elaborated on by the countless production design books for the series.

Oh, also, new horror thread OP is going to have a Staff Picks section, since that's fun for everyone.

One movie recommendation per Goon. Consider that the first page will also have sub-genre lists and recommendations specific to those sub-genres. That said, feel free to make your staff pick something that gets brought up regularly (From Beyond, Possession), or something obscure that doesn't get a lot of discussion but would you would consider essential (The Lure, Mandy, Castle Freak) but might not be listed as an obvious essential (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th).

Also it'll be fun in the next ten years(?) for peeps to be able to look back on how awesome our tastes were in 2018.

My first post here was in 2012, but it really is amazing to think about how my taste and experience with the genre has expanded in under 7 years.

In 2012 I'd seen:

- 0 Italian horror films
- 0 Hammer films
- 0 Corman/Price collaborations
- 0 Stuart Gordon films(From Beyond was not a childhood favorite, no nostalgia involved, I saw it for the first time because of this thread and it was love at first sight)

It's a completely different world for me now than it was then, and I have a hard time imagining how I thought of myself as a horror fan without this thread exposing me to these things.

I love the end of "Phantom of the Paradise," with Jessica Harper weeping over William Finley's corpse while the entire club full of kids just keeps dancing around like nothing happened. It's the best, bleakest conclusion to the Faustian bargain that's his undoing. His music lives on, to the detriment of everything else.

Also "Bride of Frankenstein."

"We belong dead."

My first post had me pimping the horror anthology show I was writing for, but didn't mention I was a writer for it.

Everyone proceeded to poo poo on the segments I wrote and not discuss the short films being showcased.

Now they're producing 52 episodes a year and I refused to discuss it or promote it because I was assured a well-paid writing gig with them when they went mainstream, and those fuckers dumped me without a phone call.

"Hey, you know how you developed the tone, characterization and did a lot of the planning to make the show what it was? Thanks for everything, here's nothing."

edit: It's not all bad. Rob Zombie was interested in producing it, so my work has been reviewed and enjoyed by Rob Zombie. That's something.

Probably the music, I do remember the music being very very unsettling.

lol apparently in 2012 I hadn't yet watched Candyman every single year for six consecutive years. I was right about the music though!

Can't get IMDb to work right now, but isn't the score to Candyman by Philip Glass? He's an unusual music maker.
