I think going for a no-deal Brexit would be emerging from who-the-gently caress-knows territory.

Arguably the ruling on Article 50 was more important than the farce in parliament today. I'd say there's one fewer way to end up with a no-deal Brexit now. If May clings to power for 3 1/2 more months, but can't get her deals through, I don't think she's actually mad enough to ignore the escape hatch of revoking A50 at the last moment.

Pure insanity

Is this a valid analogy to the entire Brexit trainwreck?

Image if you were a manager, and your employees get to go to your boss and define performance goals that you have to meet in order to keep your job. At the same time all of your employees hate you and want to get rid of you, and have completely opposite criteria for meeting the goals.

No, it's more that you're running an engineering firm and the IT staff begged you for a go on the production line for 5 minutes while you took a fag break. Everything is now on fire and they're blaming you for them losing their jobs, and it's also your fault for thinking it was a good idea. Basically everyone is poo poo and shouldn't have done anything in the first place.

Most of those already fell, the Turks lost their empire almost exactly 100 years ago.
But the crazy puffed up arrogance can remain a long time.

Hell China lost their sense of being supreme like 150 years ago, and even now that they're back to being an important powerful country they still act like a super insecure nutjob about it.

Yeah, if China wanted to expand their territorial waters they should have done it the normal, fair way by finding real islands, killing everyone on them, and planting their flag 400 years ago.

I can't prove it but British anti-European sentiment didn't traditionally make the USSR comparison and they've only been willing to make it since Breivik did in his manifesto. When the Foreign Sec compared the EU to 'a gulag' it was top-tier dogwhistling for people who think Breivik was right.

It also pissed off most of Eastern Europe so it wasn't exactly for international audiences
