Apparently the fascist guy Pewdiepie shouted out got a strike over his Steven Universe video where he does the classic "name the Jew" game. As predicted, the usual idiots are screeching about it and how it was just a joke. I swear, the "just a joke" poo poo infuriates me more than any other internet Nazi behavior. I've largely come to see the American alt-right movement as an utter failure and farce after Charlottesville broke its spine and the coming years resulted in pretty much every Neo-Nazi of note crashing and burning. But god, are they still loving everywhere and still loving annoying. This poo poo where they pretend everything they say is just a silly joke is so irritating to me because it's just the most bald-faced lie. You've got these dudes like E;R whose entire catalogue of jokes is nothing but racist poo poo, their jokes are into such Nazi minutiae (such as the "Heather Heyer died of a heart attack" hoax they tried and failed to run with after Charlottesville) that they're definitely following the movement's currents around, and so on. But god, the swarm of loving children that will cluster the comments of anything calling these idiots out is insane. At the very least, I can accept that E;R and everyone like him are just cynically lying because they're too cowardly to be an out Nazi and thus try to sugar coat it to sell their ideology to people. But these loving teens and early twenty-somethings genuinely believe that if you're just joking, you can do anything.

Traditionally they have used it to avoid explaining themselves or participating in a conversation as an equal: “what do I mean ‘make me a sandwich’? It’s just a joke. Lighten up.” They’re just magic words that make whatever precedes them disappear from the memory and awareness of the rear end in a top hat who has said them.

I'm struggling to think of what a non-fascist conservativism would look like right now. Maybe something like an 18th-century "blue water" Tory? Anti-interventionist and semi-isolationist with a preference for actual social continuity (as opposed to the "going back" to a romanticized past that the fascists love)?
