Gore would’ve been a 1 term president and we would be talking about the 7/7 Wall Street Attacks and Grand Central Station bombing of ‘05 under President McCain.

There was no way a Gore administration was going to have its act together well enough in 8 months to prevent 9/11.
Yeah they would have, the difference is that a Gore administration would have taken the warnings from the outgoing Clinton Administration regarding Al Qeda seriously which the Bush Administration did not. They wouldn't have retasked the submarine they had sitting off coast monitoring Al Qeda coms and there is a good chance they would have noticed it and they sure as hell wouldn't have ignored a daily briefing titled "Al Qeda determined to attack within the United States" Christ it wasn't even the first time they attempted to hit the WTC as they'd made an attempt to bomb it during the Clinton Administration.

All the nonsense about the IC not having it's act together was mainly to cover for the incompetence of the Bush administration which is the organization that should have put 2 and 2 together.

Bryan Fischer of American Family Association is handling Kavanaugh decision well

quote:

Conservatives have made a career out of getting duped by Naugahyde Conservatives, guys that look, sound, and feel like the real thing and then turn out to be cheap plastic.
It’s happened again.

Brett Kavanaugh, whom conservatives defended through thick and thin in his confirmation hearings, let us down the first chance he got. Kavanaugh cast his lot with the pro-abortion liberals on the bench in order to deny states the right to defund Planned Parenthood.

If President Trump does have the opportunity to fill another vacancy, he’d better nominate Amy Coney Barrett if he wants any hope of winning again in 2020. Kavanaugh’s decision is stupendously disappointing to the pro-life movement, for whom the sanctity of life is not just a constitutional right but a sacred one as well.

Trump must realize that his judicial nominations are his legacy. Right now he is one-for-two. He cannot afford another mistake. As I said, everybody is entitled to one mistake, but nobody is entitled to two.

A clipper ship found them and took them aboard an aircraft carrier. His parents were murdered. These people were desperate, terrified, and would have been massacred. Semantically, "you" is both singular and plural, though syntactically it is always plural. It always takes a verb form that originally marked the word as plural.

Also, there is no plural when the context is an argument with an individual rather than a group. Somfin shouldn't put words in my mouth.

Friend of mine back in college is 2nd generation Vietnamese. When I knew her (7 years ago or so) she was really conservative and just spouted anti-Obama talking points nonstop. I can say that yes the Vietnamese community in general is conservative but they have swung hard Democrat since Trump and his brand of white-supremacy was elected. This is anecdotal but the community is scared and feels betrayed, politically.

A lot of people have this conception of politicians (and in particular of congress) as on some level being primarily an intellectual and moral discussion about the merits of various positions.

That's a charming idea but has nothing to do with what politics actually is in practice. Politics is 100% about efficiently finding carrots or sticks as the case demands and wielding them skillfully. The most intellectual debate ever going on wrt that is over what causes merit what expenditure of finite political capital. It's an entirely craven system where 'what can you do for me?' is the central question ('what can you do to hurt me?' is the close second).

I know that sounds cynical, but it's basically how congress was intended to work, especially in the context of the popular concept of sending MoC to DC so that they can bring home the bacon. Really shrewd politicians are just famously good at cultivating a working knowledge of their opponents indiscretions and understanding deeply the interests of their friends.
