Why don't you just pay your rent via direct deposit, and then set it up as a recurring service so you never need to think about rent.

Or just the fact that people mainly use digital payment options instead of cards? The main thing is we eliminated signatures for pins about 5 years ago & magstripes about 7 years ago. Contactless under $100 needs no pin, but the banks & card issuers cover that fraud entirely because they want the low value transactions to move away from cash. Edit: we introduced pins for non-credit transactions like 20 years ago but credit cards still used signature until fairly recently norp fucked around with this message at 01:26 on Dec 13, 2018 |

I asked a coworker of mine this a few years back when he was into it. Apparently you only need PCI-E at 1x channel speeds (whatever that means), so you just get a bunch of adapters like this and plug 'em into all the available slots on your motherboard: https://www.amazon.com/Fixable-Adap...o+16x+adaptater

PCIE as a bus can support a lot of devices, the problem is just when you need to transmit data to a lot of them all at the same time. Thankfully for bitcoiners, the OS doesn’t need to check in with them all that often when mining — in comparison to contexts like real-time computer graphics. Edit: each bus (connector on the motherboard) can support up to 32 addressable devices, generally

I bet if you divide the rate by hash per machine the number of active servers will have a hell of a nosedive The rate per machine plateaued hard with the S9 which came out in July 2017 and hashes at 13.5 Th/s. You can see in september 2017 when they started getting delivered to customers, the hashrate really took off. The entire climb from 10m to 60m was likely antminer S9s. All of my "bitcoin is eating the earth" math calculations assumed for the sake of simplicity that every piece of hardware on the network was an S9 to determine the theoretical minimum. I'll update my math for peak hash
