I got it because I love that era of RPGs but never played any of the big Sega ones, and there are 6-8 supposed gems on there. Currently 10 hours into PS4. It got better when I printed out what the spells and techs did. The macro system is neat.

The rest of the catalog seems like a ton of Double Dragon style brawlers in different flavors and some Sonic games, which are good. So depending on how much you love those.

PS4 is a stand out winner and a fine example of a good classic JRPG (and one that I remember being one hundred loving dollars retail, i still have no idea how the hell I had that as a kid). The rest of the series kinda needs nostalgia or a sense of historical interest to play, IMO

I wish the collection Phantasy Stars had the Sega Ages PS feature of being able to bring up a list that describes the magic and items, that thing's been absurdly useful in trying to remember what all the weirdly named stuff in the game does.

you do have to consider how old some of this stuff is too. Like, for Smash Ultimate they've pulled out I think over a thousand spirits, some of which are incredibly obscure and old. Stuff so old the sprites not only aren't archived in an easily accessible way (if at all) but are part of the source code and not convenient .png's. It's not something you just "pull up" and slap into the game.

Flip side someone was surprised how many splatoon songs were in Smash and how much they must love squidkids which I deflated by pointing out Splatoon 2 files are very likely a network copy & paste away in terms of :effort: unlike the stuff you're talking about.

What's crazy is that $100 US in 1993 is $175 now.

With game development costs skyrocketing it's astounding that taking into account inflation, the standard $60 for a new release means games keep getting cheaper to buy. Though I guess that's why companies deem it a failure when a game "only" sells millions of copies

It did, and they are, but much like Nintendo never being a good company according to the internet, Konami will always be pachinko, even if they completely reverse course and give fans literally everything they ever want.

Last I checked the Japanese casino laws were really restrictive for Japanese people. Like citizens have to pay a tax just to be allowed into the casino and can only visit so often, in an attempt to discourage gambling addiction. The casinos are mainly meant for tourists, the average everyday gambler still has to make due with pachinko

Also, with regards to the Sega Bundle, Shining Force and Shining Force 2 are wonderful, Beyond Oasis is a very nice Aladdin-esque top-down action adventure game, almost feels like LttP. Toejam & Earl 1 is worth the price of admission ALONE (shut your mouth, it is :colbert:), and everything else is very solid. I never played Gunstar Heroes much, but from what I remember, it's very solid, and a lot of people absolutely love it.

I just wish that someone would port Crusader of Centy/Soleil to some newer platform :argh: Seriously, if you enjoyed LttP even a little bit, you owe it to yourself to play that drat game. So loving good, and it would fit in so perfectly well in this collection.

I think one thing people keep forgetting is increased competition. People buy more games, movies etc. and their budgets are competed for differently than in the past. Games aren't worth 60 in 1993 dollars because there was maybe a handful of worthwhile games to get a year back in the day and fewer media outlets requiring fees or subscriptions. If the competition were this intense for people's media dollars back in 1993, games would have probably been 40 or so dollars instead at the high end.

I got a gimmicky but highly rated back case that was rubberized and allegedly made it easier to hold. Honestly, i think those products are all terrible. It's a relatively inexpensive device, so wrapping it in plastic or other casing just makes it imbalanced and "heavy" feeling, and hardly protects it at all. I don't know of any case that can be docked in the official dock either but even if they could I wouldn't do it, because it's not designed for it.

If you like beat em ups, Streets of Rage 2 is still worth playing. Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine is a fun puzzle game. Gunstar Heroes is a fun action shooter. Sonic 2 might be fun if you like 2d platformers. I enjoy Toejam and Earl but that might not fun if you have no nostalgia. If you like JRPGs you may like the Phantasy Star games. Some people enjoy Beyond Oasis as a 2d Zelda style game, I have no nostalgia for it and could never get into the game when I got it for the Wii.

Maybe watch a few videos, it's hard to say how much you will like the games but depending on preferences some are still worth playing.

It's kind of a mix, generally severely overgrown and post-apoc urban but it's about a slugcat in a place that is very not made for slugcats so yknow, no tranquil forests or anything lol. The trailer definitely emphasised more action than honestly happens in the minute-to-minute gameplay, actually trying to fight the predators is mostly a very dangerous idea and should generally be avoided, but it does happen and it is intense. The Monk character they showed in it does have a quieter, even more solitary playthrough though if that's what you're after
