First DLC run done. Spiderhell turned out to not, in fact, be spider hell. Instead it's goblin hell. False advertising aside, it's a decent seed. Best bro. e: Two-handed flails are a lot of fun btw. Maybe the weakest two-handed weapon overall, but still definitely viable as well. Wizard Styles fucked around with this message at 17:58 on Dec 14, 2018 |

So, what are the "underappreciated" backgrounds out there? I know people always talk up Wildmen and Farmhands, but if there is one background I almost always pick up when I see it (and they don't have awful traits), it's thieves. They've got decent fatigue, usually decent resolve, good MA, and often very good starting MD and RD. Not to mention that they almost always cost less than 500 gold.

I've had some really good daytalers in the past. Being unremarkable at everything also means they don't have any glaring weaknesses so if you luck your way into one with good starting rolls or good stars (or both!) they can be really solid. And they're dirt cheap so you can hire them all day. Basically the same for all the other physical profession jobs, really: fishermen, millers, masons, and so on. I also have a soft spot for historians and will always try to hire one, but usually they're utter garbage in a fight.

A lot of the "underappreciated" backgrounds have good events. I always try to get Historians, Jugglers, and Minstrels for event choices if nothing else once I expand to 20 bros. Retired Soldiers and Swordmasters too if I find a good Apprentice or Squire. It always takes me a while to expand to 20 brothers because I try to save that ambition until the other progression ones are done. A lot of early game ambitions can be missed if you pass the requirements before it pops. That's why I tend to play "Bronzeman" instead of Ironman. I don't savescum battles and stuff, but I savescum like crazy to get the optimal order of early game ambitions.

things i would change for battle brothers with this patch: with the addition of the longsword, shifting and changing the Warbrand to a two-handed cleaver and adding the Grossmesser as a top tier two-handed cleaver falchion should also get a cleaver move as its base attack, because lol at thinking a falchion handles anything similar to an arming sword id maybe make a two handed dagger variant called the estoc tbh, like regular dagger but meaner tbh id rework the entire fencing sword into its own line too, ranging from a more cutting based sabre to a more balanced cut and thrust sword to the mostly piercing focused epee given to us now

Does anyone else get annoyed by how much fatigue certain actions take? Why does extending your hand towards the sky to release a falcon tire you more then swinging a two-handed ax? Why does throwing an acid flask cost 20 fatigue? Throwing nets carry a pretty big fatigue hit too if I remember correctly.

Houndmasters can be a little more expensive but when they are they come with a net, so even if the bro ends up being poo poo you at least got a useful item. Graverobbers are good if you can find cheap ones but sometimes the game wants you to pay for some low tier Ancient Dead item when hiring them which isn't great. Apparently there's an event where a Graverobber and a Historian unearth a unique item together, too. RabidWeasel posted:I've had a couple of sick gamblers before Also, thanks for posting the Pimp, Humbaba. First time I've seen what that background's stats look like.

What are some tips for beginners? I read somewhere in this thread ages ago that you shouldn't try to get 12 people immediately, because then the game makes enemies stronger, and you're not well enough equipped, or something? Also why can a single aimed shot kill my archer from full health (on beginner, lol)? How does damage work? Was it a crit to the head or something (I saw an eye come out) which just kills you outright?

You generally want to acquire new recruits as you can afford to equipment. Partly it's because the game scales encounters to the size of your company, and partly it's because a man in a shirt brandishing a stick is just going to get killed and lend encouragement to your enemies without contributing to a fight. quote:Also why can a single aimed shot kill my archer from full health (on beginner, lol)? How does damage work? Was it a crit to the head or something (I saw an eye come out) which just kills you outright? Headshots do 150% damage. Even the most basic bow will easily do lethal damage to an unprotected face. Difficulty level changes many of the circumstances about how much money you make and how hard the fights you get into are, but it doesn't change the base combat mechanics.

The flip side of headshots killing your guys instantly is that they can also kill your enemies instantly. You can make sure your bros are all wearing helmets that will prevent that from happening, but your opponents still spawn without them sometimes.

First recruit of a new run Got a good feeling about this Also, sometimes it's worth throwing yourself at seemingly impossible battles (day 5, I got really lucky, and didn't lose anyone) Edit: Also, why does it seem like WebKnechts are smart enough to understand spearwalls when most other beasts and ghouls seemingly aren't? They absolutely will run into a spearwall bro if they've webbed him, or if they're trying to sneak around to your backline/surround him.

Day 3 and a one skull contract had four Raiders with helmets, mail shirts and polearms. I mean sure that's all there were, but they might as well have been loving necrosavants for this rabble I had to work with. Oh well, EDIT: Speaking of.... For all you folks pining after archers, the map seed THATSXCOM has no less than four forest settlements for your Hunter recruiting needs. Starting bros aren't bad either. EDIT 2: Also I appreciate a lot that this DLC that introduces several new types of monsters, and a monster slayer background, also adds Geralt into the pool of possible names for your brothers. Question, because I don't want to do this again by mistake: I attacked the largest Noble house's army by mistake and now four towns hate me. I thought you only attacked friendlies by ctrl-clicking, but I definitely wasn't trying to attack that militia. So, for next time, how do I avoid it? Iirc I was trying to enter a town that the friendly militia was on. Do I wait for them to walk past before I click? I was quite zoomed out. (Maybe a cat was on the keyboard? Can't remember) Another thing: I'm going to have to zoom out and take some phone pictures of the map because I refuse do so many travel contracts because I'm not really sure where the caravan is going. It doesn't always give a direction. Then it's gone forever.

Go out to the map, look at where the destination is, then if you want the mission go in and accept it and if you don't want the mission just leave it there and do something else. You may come back and decide you want to do it later, or eventually it'll time out and disappear on its own.

I got destroyed by a group of 12 hexen last night. No escorts, nothing, just 12 hexen, wondering around. Round 1, they charmed my entire front line. It was not pretty. How do I even begin to deal with this? Is there a trick to it? Just run from the hexen if I see them in time? Like I can see taking down 1-3, but 12 is a lot.

12?! I’ve beat a few, but I’m guessing the answer to “a dozen enemies who can charm and hex you” is high resolve, spread everyone out, and focus archers at max range on hexen that are not hexing anyone. I ran into a hexe + Unhold combo that demolished a patroling force that I managed to get into the fight, it was fun to watch, tbh.
