just had the misfortune of seeing a prager u ad (i'm on a pc with no ad block) starts off with old whitey making the point that liberals and leftists are not the same. intrigued i decided to see where he was taking this. the next words to leave his mouth are that leftists have stolen the term liberal to cloak their agenda and then my head exploded and i'm dead now

Right wing sources basically mis-reported the protests as anti-immigration and pro-trump the second they happened. These people probably don't even realize they're co-opting something.

That reminded me of something. There was an interview with Daniel Cohn-Bendit, in which he implied the yellow jackets were (i) very close to the FN and (ii) allegedly coerce people into joining their protests. The basis of the first claim is somebody called José Bové, does that mean anything to anyone here? Personally, I wouldn't trust anything Cohn-Bendit says in the first place but IIRC he is still in good standing with the left/greens, so I wanted to ask people more in tune with French politics.

Are politics in NZ different than in Canada? Because politicians putting something to a referendum typically means they want it to fail and love being able to say that it failed because it was the will of the people. e: They also make the referendum question(s) misleading and stupid to ensure their desired results.
