Has anyone heard the official remaster of ...And Justice for All? Is it worth buying, or are some of the various fan remasters on YouTube, Soundcloud, etc. better?

do you wish the album had brickwall compression like their more recent stuff? then it's right up your alley

What's a good place to start with the Melvins if I really like The Bit? Stag and go from there or what? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOn7Ind9MHU

stag's a good start if you like the weirder songs, then you'll want to check out their earlier albums and the late 90s stuff, but if you just like the more straightforward stuff, then anything from the past 15 years or so will be more up your alley

CornHolio posted:What's a good place to start with the Melvins if I really like The Bit? Stag and go from there or what? Melvins are one of my favorite bands ever. I’m partial to Houdini and Stoner Witch. Gluey Porch Treatments is a sludge masterpiece. Their recent stuff is not great with the exception of a handful of songs. Edit - just listen to Honey Bucket on repeat and mosh through a wall like the kool aid man. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp5r9qwqpPc deedee megadoodoo fucked around with this message at 15:07 on Dec 17, 2018 |

Listened to Stag. Didn't care much for it other than The Bit. Halfway through Houdini now, this is more what I'm after. Digging this.

houdini and stoner witch are definitely their most accessible releases and ive said it many times but some of their best stuff is their 3 name ep's especially dale's

Also if you are partial to Houdini and Stoner Witch, also check out the band Big Business, which has a few Melvins members. Their last two releases - Battlefields Forever and Command Your Weather - scratch the same itch that older Melvins releases do.

Today on the Jason Ellis show on sirius they played a game where they had to guess if lines were from a five finger death punch song or a pro wrestling promo. It was pretty goddamn hard and also funny cause goddamn they suck rear end.

As others have said Stoner Witch is a great place to start with the Melvins and Gluey Porch Treatments is top-tier "My War B-side" early sludge. I also really dig Bullhead and Lysol if you're looking to expand to some of their other sound a bit. Their new album with two bassists is really cool too, though it got mixed reviews.
