Larry Parrish posted:I really cant imagine why people aren't wearing the Sunday best to the mechanic shop To be fair I think the intended meaning isn't "wear a suit to the machine shop," it's "wear comfortable jeans to the party." Which is a good and correct take, the only acceptable proletarian clothing is either an oil-stained jumpsuit or jeans and a sturdy shirt/jacket. Fancy clothes are reactionary, sorry, I don't make the rules. Crazycryodude has issued a correction as of 05:03 on Dec 20, 2018 |

And to be fair, attaching societal value to certain outfits is absolutely capitalist as hell, especially when the distinguished outfit tends to require more money to buy and upkeep. So, he's asking why people aren't wearing their stained, smelly, torn work wear out to go shopping? Which is just as stupid.

This is fascinating to me, actually. I've followed a few reality shows about "influencers" and it really opened up my eyes as to how they are literally just shills for companies and more importantly that no one seems to care. They'll take videos and pictures of themselves using shampoo or certain food or clothes and tell everyone how awesome the product is and LITERALLY as soon as the camera shuts off they throw the crap to the side and never use it again. It's literally just shilling That's how they make their living. That's how an "instagram career" is a possibility and no one gives them poo poo for endorsing products in public forums with the pretense of sincerity, when in fact they are being paid for their services.

Also, I posit that "influencers" aren't really that enshrined among the youth and this is yet some more capitalist propaganda about how everyone is with it. How can young people enjoy being marketed to egregiously and shamelessly when this is also true: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2017/11/07/soci-n07.html quote:According to the poll, which was carried out by the international polling firm YouGov between September and October, 51 percent of those Americans currently between the ages of 21 and 29, defined in the report as “Millennials,” would prefer to live in a socialist or communist country over a capitalist country. ? How many purchased followers and click farms are involved in puffing up figures to wring money out of adspace, exactly? 'Cuz it is a significant number I am sure. Fun Fact: the usual quoted price drug companies give of bringing a new drug to market includes the lost opportunity costs of spending the money on research - as in, a big chunk (probably even most) of the, say, $20 billion a drug development cycle "costs" is actually just the amount of money they "could have" made if instead of researching new drugs they invested it all in the stock market.
