There might be a way to safely re-engine the B-1 for 33% more thrust, but man I would not want to be the guy taking a 30 year old aircraft above Mach 2 at sea level for the first time. Low level super sonic is harsh on air frames.

Would explain why those IDF reps kept asking exactly how large a bubble canopy will fit over the lift fan bay in the A/C models.

The RIO doesn't specifically NEED a canopy to operate the systems.

I mean, does the back-seater really need to see anything? Just replace fan with chair, problem solved.

Israel actually uses the 2nd seat as a copilot so the guy in back actually flies sometimes.

As opposed to the expected use case for the F-15B/D and F-16B/D which was that the guy in back would only fly after screaming "oh god MY AIRPLANE MY AIRPLANE" when the student pilot in the front seat hosed up.

It's a radial!
The instructor always sits in the back seat so he can smack the student on the head to get his attention if needed.

A two seater, let's call it the F-35D, might be useful for electronic attack.

All this says is that the British should've given up on their domestic aviation industry all the way back in 1951.

Wasn't the takeaway from the whole VR helmet thing on the f-35 program that it would be totally awesome if it didn't make the pilot violently ill?

I think the big issue was strapping a bunch of weight on a pilots head is not healthy under high g loads. High g-loads include carrier takeoff and landing.

In the sense that central and western Europe were expected to be expended in those 6 days and that's where the A-10s were, yes.
