Allow me to introduce Senator Brian Schatz (D - Hawaii). Generally, he's a very cool guy. Unfortunately, he is getting turbofucked by this voting poo poo. Because you see, Senator Brian Schatz left for Hawaii (11 hour flight) after the Senate passed the funding bill, since Donnie said he'd sign it. Now, because Donnie Cheesebrain changed his mind and the House passed a version with wall funding, Senator Brian Schatz is needed back in Washington for the Friday vote knocking down the walled version. So, he has to get back on the 11-hour flight, again, because members of Congress have to be physically present to vote. https://twitter.com/brianschatz/status/1075927173406482433 https://twitter.com/brianschatz/status/1075942738162417664

I don't feel bad for members of congress having to deal with bullshit work requirements, like being told by your boss you have to come back to the office after you already planned a vacation. I just don't.

AreWeDrunkYet posted:Does the Senate work that way? Is it a hard 60 votes for cloture, or 60% of the quorum? This poo poo's apparently weird. From what I remember reading, there will be three votes in the Senate. Vote 1) Majority needed, to simply take up the House modification. Vote 2) 60 needed, cloture. Vote 3) Majority needed to either pass the House version or send back a compromise version. Reminder: the Senate version passed by voice vote. Basically, ANY Senator could've delayed that vote (and didn't), or 20% of the quorum could've requested a full roll call vote (they didn't!). So, vote 1 might not even pass because Republican Senators are pissed off or out of town. Vote 2 definitely won't even come anywhere close. For the above/below: nah, it's just funny! facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 05:57 on Dec 21, 2018 |

If there was a war we would never win, its Afghanistan. We might have had a chance to unite the country and accomplish something, had Shah Massoud not been killed right before the war. We might have won had we been willing to negotiate. We might have won if we reacted like the Israeli's did after Munich. We might have won if we had spent more than a week determining our strategy beyond, "Kill Browns." We might have had a chamce at victory had everything gone right. But we didn't. We didn't learn from the history of that hard place, and when we do leave, we will be leaving with an ugly scar of not only another war lost, but a failure of the US to accomplish any real sustainable goals. poo poo, I remember twlling people way back in 02 that if Alexander the Great was afraid of taking Afghanistan, followed by so many other expeditions, most notably the British and Russian, then we didn't have a chance, because we didn't learn enough from Vietnam. I completely agree we should pull out. On our way out, we should be polite and deliver a case of MREs, an AK, and a "Hang in there" kitty poster, because it's going to go back to exactly what it was befoew we got there.
