They support taxes, but their whole lives right-wing propaganda has told them taxes are wasted on foreign aid and welfare for black people. If you promised them a racist wall and socialism for whites only they'd vote for a 90% tax rate tomorrow (and have in the past), in fact if you go read any one of these yokel safari NYT/WaPo/HP/whoever articles where they interview farmers being bankrupted by the trade war they all say that sometimes you have to be willing to give up all your money and your livelihood for the good of the country. It's the business wing of the GOP that hates taxes as a concept*, but they aren't the chuds donating to this wall either. *Well I mean the business wing hates they themselves paying taxes as a concept, obviously they want taxes to fund their wars and bailouts and corporate welfare, they just want that tax money to come from the bottom 99% VitalSigns fucked around with this message at 18:38 on Dec 21, 2018 |

By the way, folks--you will see Mitch McConnell vote nay on the final bill because he knows it will fail, not because he's against it. Voting nay allows him to bring it up again. Harry Reid used to do it all the time.

Here's hoping that GOP pissing contest that just happened in the WH was just a bunch of really frustrated senators sitting around a pissy, pouty Trump demanding a vote and them eventually just giving up and saying gently caress it alright, knowing it won't pass. I hope every one of them is miserable and remain that way.

If I had to guess, this will end one of two ways: 1) Veto override. McConnell decides that he needs the government open and whips enough votes in the Senate, and a newly-crowned Speaker Pelosi does likewise in the House. 2) They agree to a clean CR in exchange for a separate vote on the $5B in border wall funding, which everyone except Trump knows will fail.

I'm going to ask a potentially stupid-rear end question here but the term "war criminal" gets thrown around so much it's starting to lose meaning for me. These people who get flagged as war criminals, have they violated actual US or international laws? Is there a mechanism by which they should be prosecuted and sentenced, and if so what is the reason that mechanism is not used? Is there some way to trigger actual accountability if laws are being violated?
