I just want to make sure I'm tracking this whole thing correctly.

They could have also easily gotten the funding through reconciliation , if there were 50 votes in the senate for the dumb wall.

And his base eats it up until he steps on the military toes... him firing Mad Dog actually seems to have done some damage to him.

I've said this before but if Trump looked like Ryan Gosling and spoke like William F Buckley with everything else the same, it wouldn't work. His appeal relies on being someone who is not obviously better than you - he's ruder than his base, weirder than his base, and more repulsive physically than his base. He also has this pathetic, needy quality that's really obvious. He's rich and can do what he likes, but because of those other factors it's not something you can entirely envy. Pure id.

I'm not wild about being me, but I am really, really glad I'm not Donald J Trump. There is some small measure of comfort knowing that he is, in many ways, his own punishment

Yes, though there are a few other problems:

* Not all Republican Senators are in town
* 2 - Flake and Corker- Karen it clear they’re not interested in voting for it
* lots of Republican Senators have said they won’t vote to remove the filibuster rule

Here's a puzzler for you! Trump can't fire the Fed Reserve chairman, but if he still tries, it's that enough to spark a credit crunch and market correction?

My hope is that Mattis’ timeline is based on some agreement with the GOP to support impeachment after the new house is seated.

Presumably they mean swapped cause and effect. Donald T wants to fire the fed chair because of poor market performance (which he believes is spurred by the chair's policy), not that poor market performance was caused by the specter of firing the fed chair.

oh i misread that - yeah definitely, he's mad because of raising interest rates

anyone curious about why trump can't do this can click on my previous posts, i talked about a couple cases last night that discuss why the Fed is an independent agency and you can't fire heads of independent agencies just because you don't like them

It’s not really about that necessarily. Trump has been against Powell and the Fed raising interest rates for a few months now (inconveniently, that hurts Trump’s businesses)

The thing that blows my mind about the whole shut-down is it really looks like both parties sat trump down, said "look you're not getting a wall for christmas, lets just fund the govt so theres no stupid shutdown and everyone can go take a few weeks off" and trump was a-ok with that. So the senate passed a normal spending bill, and then fox news had a projectile vomiting session about the whole thing and trump immediately flipped to "not going to sign". I guess I'm saying I think fox news should be shut down and whats-his-face not allowed to run a media company anymore.
