There's a lot of that zero sum world view out there in general these days (IMO propagated and amplified by social media trends of pettiness) from everything to how people digest media to how political achievements are graded by those in power and it's just not in touch with how the world actually works at all in the post WWII global economy/hegemony. The problem is (if you’re in the upper quarter or so of US households at least - or if you aspire to be) that it is win/lose. Your affluence and lifestyle demand oppression. There arent the resources for everyone to live that way and you need starvation to compel people to do lovely jobs so you can have more stuff. The way you justify this is nationalism and racism and other methods that allow you to believe you are simply more deserving. Another way is actively not thinking about it.
