Dude apparently used to have some regressive views and was taken to task for it. In response he seems to have genuinely changed. He has been known to officiate Gay Weddings, and on the more recent seasons of his shows he makes a point to give more exposure to minority restaurant owners and upcoming chefs.

Also I went to one of his restaurants at the Casino near Philly recently. I wouldn't exactly call it fine-dining, but the burger I ordered was surprisingly good, and the people working there seemed genuinely happy. Apparently he likes to drop by every now and then and check up on the staff and chat with diners.

Especially if Cheney is portrayed as a cartoon or "misunderstood". Which I don't know if it does, but the trailer didn't look super promising.

I can understand that. I do think the first part of the movie is very much like that, but basically throws all that sympathy away as the Cheneys get more power until it ends with Dick Cheney speaking directly to the audience that he doesn't have to apologize for anything.

The best thing about it is the explanation of the Unitary Executive theory and how things just built up and up over the last three-four decades.

It is an important distinction and you should be more careful to realize it's not like a cartoon where everyone bad is gonna be personally mean to you and everyone good is gonna be personally nice to you. Bush being friendly to the obamas is exactly the image he's always had. As opposed to trump where just calls people names and yells at people and stuff. Both things are things that exist and modes under which people can operate.

Goddamn, dude. No one appears to be viewing this as a cartoon except for you. Everyone is perfectly aware that people can come across "nice" and can also do bad things. Most bad people can! Everyone gets it. You aren't dropping knowledge on anyone. I guess if it needs to be explained out to you in detail but Bush is NOT a nice man. A nice guy doesn't call one of the chief architects of his presidential victory and closest advisors "turd blossom" to humiliate him in front of others for years. He doesn't mock someone on death row. Yeah when the cameras are on he is friendly with someone he sees as equal in his social class. That doesn't mean he's "nice", it means he's good at doing the most basic things to look good for cameras that rubes watching at home will interpret as "well, at least he's nice!".

Bush Jr is a very dumb, cruel little man who knows how to tolerate kissing a baby now and then because it furthers his goals. Trump is a very dumb, cruel little man who is really bad at it. Neither is nice. Bush Jr is just a C+ sociopath, while Trump gets an F. Neither is "nice".

So is that cathartic or just that yeah he got away with it all, haha? I guess I just think he's a piece of poo poo and don't find him very amusing and don't want him smirking at the end and then "My Way" plays over the credits or something.

Guy also quietly went and served food to people who lost their homes in the California fires which is super rad. It's really easy for celebs to turn charity into a pr stunt and generally isn't looked down on even if it's pretty lovely so for him to not do that speaks volumes.

I heard an interview on NPR with the EDIT: DIRECTOR for the Cheney movie; he had a heart attack right after shooting, and in his delirium he told the doctor how funny it was that he'd just finished filming a scene like this and now it's actually happening.

The doctor responded, "Dick Cheney? Great American", and the actor wondered if he was really going to start a fight with his doctor about this, right here right now rolling into surgery, so instead he just gasped out "Well, it's.....it's complicated".

Whenever they hit a bump in the edit room, this became the icebreaker:

"Dick Cheney? Great American."

"Well, it's complicated."

Made me wanna see it, if only because the guy was not on the 'Great American' side.

People do seem to be confusing that because people keep complaining that bush is getting portrayed as nice, like that is some huge shift or rehabilitation of his image. He is nice, and probably will continue to be nice. Him being bad is not contingent on if he is friendly to people.

Food/refuse/sewage-associated flies include fruit flies, drain flies and Phorid flies.”

The eatery was also reprimanded for employees failing to use “proper utensils” to “eliminate bare hand contact with food.”

Also the military (properly!) don't get to decide what wars they fight in, and are rarely given a free hand in terms of strategy either. Aside from the vast stupidity of even getting into Iraq in the first place, the Bush administration also made a huge number of strategic blunders, often against the advice of their generals. The book Cobra II spells it out in rage-inducing detail, but the tl,dr is that however much you hate the Bush administration, you are probably underestimating in your head how assholishly incompetent it was in every conceivable way. People poo poo on Carter for how dumb Operation Eagle Claw/Desert One was, but lol Bush and his cronies (especially Rumsfeld) were just so much worse at everything, constantly, down to even trying to micromanage Army logistics and breaking them in the process. Rumsfeld thought he was loving George Marshall while being stupider than George Custer.

Not to mention all the bullshit like sending a ton of idiotic college republicans into the country to create an Iraq stock market and other dumb bullshit. I'll grab that book. I wish I could find some of the articles that came out about all the libertarian "free market" ideology crap they were trying to implement while people were dying in the streets. So much of their failures have just disappeared from public knowledge.

The biggest problem with the movie is everyone is vile monstrous garbage straight up and down the chain and the movie doesn't necessarily sugar coat any of that. This leads to a movie with absolutely no protagonist and without someone to root for, audiences will create one and that's a problem. Whether intended or not, there will be people who leave with a better opinion of Cheney than when they got in.

It's brutal to watch if you remember any of this but, it fits in perfectly with the axiom; there's no such thing as an anti-war film.

Babylonians used base 60 for this reason, which is why hours have sixty minutes and days have 24 hours and circles have 360 degrees and so forth.
