I had kind of forgotten how good of a finisher he was. Equally good with both feet.

I feel he's underappreciated outside of United fans because of his supersub role. He made a career of being ready to play the second he hit the pitch, he didn't need to "grow" into games like a lot of players do. Ferguson used him to great effect and he scored some loving quality goals. People talk a lot about Michael Owen being a good poacher/fox in the box type player, but I can only think of Nistelrooy as maybe better than OGS at just popping up in seemingly acres of space to smash in a rebound or first time pass from an impossible angle.

Also lol at how often his left foot smash into bottom right corner across the keeper worked.

My biggest whoah moment watching that video was remembering Luke Chadwick exists

Also never really realized how old Solskjær was when he arrived at United, already 23. Makes sense though given he only really played at United-level for 8 years before he broke

Also also, Jordi Cruyff had a couple nice involvements in there, sad he never really took off

Ha yeah, Barthez too. Was a shame he broke down his scoring record was so good. 600k pounds or thereabouts, what a bargain

Darren Fletcher is a top top top lad who means well and I hope he ends up back at United at some point.

Some great anecdotes there, and lol at imagining Mourinho doing some of the things he talks about Ferguson doing during his explosive death poo poo phase.

pogba never stopped doing his job, he played when he was picked, kept training, did his pr appearances. he just didn't do his job with any enthusiasm, because his manager seemed intent on publicly belittling him at every opportunity. you shouldn't be able to fine someone for not enjoying their job

Bit like that Spider-Man pointing at Spider-Man here. If Jose wasn't such a oval office to half the squad, he probably wouldn't have as much miserable talent

real madrid broke jose's brain, before that he used to fall out with the media and club owners but stayed super tight with his players and staff

I just hope the Pogba situation specifically didn't factor into the sacking of Jose, otherwise there goes Ferguson's prime and unbroken rule: No player can be bigger than the Manchester United manager.

Mourinho's achilles heel was players that didn't buy into the Mourinho Effect which is probably why he has a historically poor record with youth as I'd imagine they take a lot longer to win over to your way of thinking especially if there's a disjoint between first team philosophy and wherever the youth have trained.

Mourinho was great at putting together teams that would win trophies for two or three seasons, you can't hire a manager like Mourinho and then expect him to youth his way out of positional problems. Mourinho was right that the defence wasn't good enough, his choice was to be Mourinho: get a ready made centre back to sit alongside one of the already established defenders. Woodward picked then to be more cautious and instead give Mourinho another defender that would need coaching, something Mourinho is not and has never been interested in.

There's no denying Real Madrid broke Mourinho somehow, but even first Chelsea stint Mourinho would have bought the team he wanted and paid again to replace any that weren't working out.

Mourinho should be pummelled for the way in which he chose to deal with players in public and for not getting results, but anyone that expected/wanted Mourinho to show up at United and not want to buy himself a trophy winning team and have them play powerful but pragmatic football, is loving deluded.

United expected Mourinho to change and adapt to how United wanted to do things and Mourinho wanted United to change and adapt to how he wanted to do things. That's why he didn't work and was ultimately someone that got us back into the Champions League.

Ironically, Mourinho probably would have fared much better taking over directly from Ferguson when there were more "do it for the badge" elder players still around.

mourinho didn't get sacked because he was mean to special boy pogba, he got sacked because his team was bad and not winning games, which was in turn because he couldn't get performances out of a very obviously talented set of players

The ex pros talking about how "disgusting" it is that the players didn't play the way they are now for Mourinho are the real baffling bit of this.

Just have a bunch of Internet gammons vote on whether or not they feel a player is putting in a sufficient level of effort.

Mysteriously all black players keep getting fined week in, week out.
