I have a Pilot Metropolitan and two inks currently. The time has come to buy a second pen so I can have both inks available (and down the rabbit hole starts now). I would like to spend up to $75 getting a new pen that either comes with piston filling or can be easily converted. Suggestions?

There's also that PenBBS model, right? I forgot the number but I'm sure someone knows. I daily carry an Eco and it's going strong over a year in. Maybe two years? It has a stub nib. Not impractical at all. Okay, a little bit. Maybe I should get a Kaweco or something in fine to go with.

does uniball make a retractable version of the onyx micro? i love the pen but need a retractable. what would be closest? i like but don't love the g2 and v5. right now i'm using schmidt extra fine inserts inside a kustoms retrakt pen and i love it when it works properly which it mostly does? but i also need something more fine tipped.

Maybe the 402, which is a gel. e: Have you tried markers? They aren't retractable, but I feel like for everyday writing they are nicer than pens.

I got a bottle of Noodler's Sequoia for Christmas and it made writing my thank you notes very enjoyable. I don't know what the appropriate term for it is, but all my letters are lighter at the top and darker at the bottom. Shading? Feathering? Also as a fish biologist, I don't know if I'll allow myself to ever buy any other brand of ink.

That's shading. Feathering refers to a different ink behavior where your lines spike outwardly in a manner resembling a fluffy feather. Noodlers makes pretty decent inks, you've got a lot to explore from Nathan.

I love/hate Noodler's because I largely like the colors but if I go even a day without using a pen I have to dip it in water to get it to write again.

Does anyone have any recommendations for A4 binders/hole punch? I'm leaning towards the Atoma discbound binder system, but if there's something better I'm open to suggestions.

Ha, I've just been reading through his webpage about all the things that make the ink special and I keep thinking, who writes that many checks any more? Is there some other kind of fraud using handwriting? I guess if you're some kind of business disbursing a bunch of checks a day it makes sense, but even then, why aren't you electronically printing them anyway?

I've found from experience when I dropped my bottle of Blue upon the plains of Abraham that alcohol gel and mopping up with paper towels does a perfectly good job if you don't give the ink time to dry.

Noodler's ink pro tip, just water it down a little. The stuff is so concentrated that it usually doesn't affect the color at all, and it makes it flow better. It also prevents it from clogging quite so quickly. This doesn't apply to Baystate inks. Don't mess with Baystate inks, they're... Unique. I do love BSB though.

The VP stub is a very small stub because the VP is a very small nib. It adds some character but you’re still working with a VP

That's fine, I tend to prefer a finer point. I'll probably go with a stub. It's kind of ridiculous how expensive the nib unit itself is, it would almost seem more economical to just buy a whole second pen.

I always viewed the VP nib units as more replacements for busted ones rather than something to swap out for that reason. Overall it seems like gold nib replacements tend to be like 70% of the actual pen cost.

The pen I got was a steel nibbed Capless, because the silver one is only available with the steel nib, and I'd like to have a gold one, but I would also like it to be rhodium colored. It's partially an upgrade to a gold nib, but also for aesthetic reasons. I haven't pulled the trigger on it yet, but I would like one.

My favorite Noodler's ink is Black Swan in Australian Rose, never have to wet the pen, even with weeks between. Of course, my only pens are Lamy Safaris, one M and one F tip, along with a few crow feather dip pens, so I feel like a complete newbie compared to everyone here. Don't even have a Pilot Metropolitan!

On a similar note, I'm thinking of finally hopping on the TWSBI train. Does anyone have advice on choosing between the Eco and Go? I'm looking for a pocket pen that can get pretty beat up around the office while still showing off pretty ink colors. (I'm assuming the TWSBI nibs are reasonable. Right now I find some important features are (1) the smoothness of the write/nib - I hate feeling like I'm writing with something scratchy and (2) the pen not drying out too quickly, since I sometimes go a week or two without using one of my FPs and instead use some cheapo pens around the office.)

Can't really help with Eco vs Go, besides that I love my Eco. But for nibs, I greatly prefer my Eco's B nib. I have an M in my Diamond 580, and it feels way worse to write with. Could just be bad nib lottery luck, of course.

I don't think I've ever had an order ship in a timely fashion from them. On average it's been 3 business days before the order gets shipped for me.
