Came to the games forum to read about if I should drop my $$ on a X. Surprised I needed to go to the 4th page in the forum to find the thread, and even more surprised the last couple pages are basically DrNutt posted:I'm sorry but this 500 dollar piece of hardware is a complete piece of poo poo and I feel pretty fleeced to be honest. Thank goodness I did the Xbox one s trade in and RDR2 deal and didn't actually pay 500 dollars for this garbage. Good riddance. Thank you very much thread, I was deciding which console pack to buy, and the answer was none of them. Hail Sony Pro I guess.

The best Forza games are available on PC and I don't think there are any other Microsoft exclusives to bother with right now.

I’m a happy Xbox owner. I’m also a nerd console gamer so I have a PS4 and a Switch. Because of backwards compatibility and my bet that next gen that will stay while I can’t say the same for PS4, I buy most games on the Xbox. I also prefer the Xbox controller to the Dual Shock. For me, the PS4 is for buying exclusives. And there are a lot of good exclusives. The complaints about the laggy interface are real. But the digital store on all three systems is equally terrible and laggy. Xbox made a bad bet on being a all-in-one always online home theatre and gaming machine and it’s struggling to come out of that legacy. This is a relatively minor problem because most of the time, you aren’t dealing with the interface, you’re just playing a game which the Xbox does perfectly well. The mobile app for the Xbox is marginally better than the one for the PS4 but this is an even more minor consideration. Online populations on the Xbox are fine, though if you want to play online with Goons, probably get a PS4. There are way more PS4 players on this site than Xbox players. At the high end, the Xbox One X outperforms the PS4pro. So if you really care about graphics get the One X. In general, as part of recovering from its disasterous launch, the Xbox has been more consumer friendly than the PS4. I’ve already mentioned Backwards Comparability. It’s been better about cross-play. Game Pass is a wonderful deal for people just starting out on a console now - it’s full of AAA games from past years. Xbox is my preferred system but my advice to a random stranger would be to get the PS4.

I recently picked up a RDR2 PS4 pro (that new quieter Pro) and so far I really like it.. taking a bit of time to get used to the XMB versus the PS3 but getting there. I have nothing against Xbox, in fact we still have an Xbox original hooked up right now. Mrs. Slidebite still uses some yoga/stretching game on it (don't ask, I think she likes how it logs her activities). The only reason I am even considering an X is because I can see myself going 4K this year and just taking advantage of the boxing week sales for the bone. That said, I do have a fairly powerful 1080ti PC so I probably will hold off for the time being since there really doesn't seem to be much of a reason to do it. Maybe when I go full 4K I'll reconsider.

The Xbox UI is really bad and its bad for features that no longer exist on the system. The system itself, when playing games, is preferable to me to the PS4 as I prefer the controller, games which are X enhanced run significantly better than the Pro, its backwards compatability is great, Gamepass has a better feature set and selection than PSNow, and it doesnt sound like two jet engines making love. When I downsized this month for my upcoming move I got rid of the PS4 and kept the bone, but Ive also played basically every exclusive on the PS4 except the pornier titles Sony is cracking down on Seedge posted:I feel if this was true there'd be more posts. The side menu that pops up while you're playing a game is pretty nice. The main UI is loving garbage because I have no idea where the cursor is going to go. I see the option I want is to the right, so I hit right on the stick. Instead, the cursor goes down to a horizontal list of things and now left and right moves between those, and up doesn't seem to do anything. I now have to move all the way to the right of this list and then hit up to get to the thing I wanted in the first place. They made a UI that is OK at best for a mouse, and then hacked gamepad controls into it.

Celeste is apparently available now through GWG. Cool to get it for “free” on XB1, though I tend to play most indie games on my Switch these days and buying portable Celeste is now harder to justify when I already have access to the Xbox version of it.

In handheld was pretty painful for me I am 3 hours into Hollow Knight on the Switch, almost all in portable mode, and that has been fine so far though I did read complaints about some later-game controls using the joycon that required a bunch of downward or diagonal attacks? I do have the Pro controller which seems comparable to the XB1 or PS4 controllers to me, though that would cancel out some of the benefits of playing in undocked mode.

There are few long stretches in celeste where you just walk forward with occasional jumps/other actions and you are almost always holding down the shoulder button too. The low height of the d buttons and the heavy pressure i use when i need to be precise was an absolute killer

Not my 1st pref tho, but I said its too low to also comfortably grip the big rear end switch in a game like celeste where i was pressing hard and rapidly changing direction constantly for the whole play session

What I don’t get is how Sony, the biz behind the Blu-ray format didn’t push for the PS4 Pro to be able to play Ultra Blu-ray disks but the X does. You’d think Sony would be first in line for the 4k jazz. Edit: I love my base PS4 and X tho—but holy poo poo Microsoft needs a better UI.
