Yeah that's my basic take as well. Whole thing's a song and dance that won't go anywhere and also leads to more freshmen members of congress having to rely on outside lobbyists to craft legislation.

Depends on whether you define Trump as human.

Anyway, the "greatest election of all time" thing bugs the poo poo out of me, because, like, I was there, and it really wasn't. By any metric.

All honesty we need more people like her that don't give two shits to doublespeak and act nuetered. We need more people like the young woman that have come in this Congress that are tired of being bent over and will speak their minds and hearts.

Still wish betsy rader had won my district but hopefully the new anti gerrymander amendment in Ohio fixes the horseshit we have for districts. (It won't :negative:

I remember 2016 very vividly and what we all said was "Trump clearly has a high floor and a low ceiling." We miscalculated how high that floor was and how angry R voters were.

Once Trump won the nomination, it was no longer a surprise that he could win. If your name is on the Republican or Democratic ticket, you are pretty much guaranteed 38-40% of the popular vote no matter how bad of a candidate you are, and the only thing that really changes that is whether there is a strong third party candidate.

I think that would largely depend on how much of that 39% works for the government. If they don't, well, empathy isn't their strong suit, I doubt they give a gently caress.

They might when they don't get their tax return checks in February and March.

It's a very alien feeling, knowing that your side holds all the cards and the leader of the other side just keeps scoring own goals.

One of the things that buoy me up most about younger progressive legislators, Ocasio-Cortez among them, is that they're no longer running away from descriptors like radical or socialist. So many people are sick to death of letting generations of strong conservative and liberal narrative define what is and isn't possible.

She should not have had to explain progressive taxation to Anderson Cooper. That was unfair of him. I don't recall any of the teabagger class in 2010 being asked "how will you pay for it?" when they proposed massive tax cuts for rich people.

Glad to see she's not afraid to explain herself, though. Hell, I consider myself a fairly intelligent person and yet I would not be half as erudite as she was in that interview.

I thought they removed the ban on funding of international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) That provided counseling for abortions. I think Trump somehow ended funding of those NGOs shortly after he was inaugurated (as did like every other republican president I think). But notably the tweet doesn’t directly mention that so maybe that’s not what they’re referring to.

It's an unfair question, but I think it's a necessary one considering our political reality. Cooper knows, but a lot of people watching 60 Minutes don't understand marginal taxes or that paying for large-scale social programs is something that's possible.

Considering how many people don’t understand progressive taxation, I’m okay with it being explained over and over again.
