Very conservative indeed, yeah. Are we talking about the movie where a monarchy sides with the CIA to destroy a revolutionary movement and the ending message is "hey the status quo is fine as long as ultrawealthy dictatorships pay for some more schools out of the goodness of their hearts"

Yes, but no one but Trump would care, and Trump himself is certainly in no position to do anything other than whine impotently on Twitter, much as he did after November 2018. Personally, I'd like him to try and barricade himself in the White House--the sight of the Capitol Police dragging his piss-covered carcass kicking and screaming out of the building would warm the cockles of my heart.

OH went something like +20 to GOP in 2018 so I don't think that's a possible flip. AZ and IA are possible but not likely IMO, but IA is more likely the longer the tariffs stay in place. Winning AZ/IA does open up the possibility of those two plus PA and losing WI/MI somehow is a comedy hell option which results in a 269 EV tie. Picking up FL plus AZ/IA/PA/WI/MI results in a 326 stomping which would be so cathartic though. Fingers crossed!

I'm not goona toxx on it or anything, but from people I talk to in the suburbs/boonies of PA, the Trump train has stalled pretty hard. PGH and Philly are obvious middle fingers towards this administration, but as we saw with the special elections in our coal country, the last election, and Trump's magical fantasy lie that west PA would be a booming steel manufacturing power again, it's not going well for T-Bagz in PA, aside from the small CHUD base.

I would not count on Florida in any EV calculus you are doing. We are full of racists who just selected Ron DeSantis over Andrew Gillum and Rick Scott over Bill Nelson, in a blue-wave year. Like yeah, it'd be nice to have Florida. But Democrats should assume we are a red state from now on when crafting a campaign strategy.

Skippy McPants posted:It does have a pretty big theme of incrementalism and favoring the status quo over radical action. Hardly an alt-right masterpiece, but there's this push in conservative circles to try and lay claim to every remotely progressive or representational piece of media they can lay hands on in the hopes it'll piss off the SJWs. This is not to mention that if you look at how the universe works in the MCU and how audience expectations of what that world looks like means that Wakanda can never fix race relations in the US. There is a fundamentally conservative underpinning to the worldbuilding that isn’t even really political, but has political implications. They can never show a world where black people are truly liberated as the background to MCU movies because it would have to be what the whole movie is about; you can’t have a world that alien and have it go uncommented. But also see the way that superhero movies do this thing where they have a villain who is completely correct in their analysis of what is wrong (Wakanda has absolutely no racial solidarity with black people despite knowing explicitly within the universe that they are oppressed) but need to make them a crazed power hungry rear end to undermine the need for radical change. Also monarchies are by their nature repressive and reactionary; who cleans the toilets in Wakanda?

Florida is full of lovely old white racists, Venezuelan expats who think Democrats are all socialists, and other assorted chuds. There's a reason it was one of the only southern states where Trump's approval rating didn't fall deep into the red. Andrew Gillum was unfairly tarred with that stupid FBI investigation that ended up not implicating him in any way, but from what I understood, the DeSantis folks ran scores of ads using the words "Andrew Gillum" and "corrupt" in the same sentence and it influences the decision-making process of weak-minded people. As for that felon reenfranchisement thing, DeSantis will just slow-walk it to death. I have zero faith that it will actually ever happen.

Here is a fun side-effect of the shutdown people might not realize is happening: 1) You can't close real estate that had a government funded loans financing it, and 2) You can't even get a payoff to sell real estate that has a government loan attached to it.
