In future Stardew Valley updates every adult in town (and the desert) will be marriable.

I was just thinking about this. Who's left to make marriable?

Robin, Jodi, Caroline, Evelyn are all married. Marnie and the cart lady both have shops which usually means they're not marriageable.

Women
Sandy
Pam

Demetrius, Kent, Pierre, George are all married. Marlon & Mr Qi both have shops.

Men
Wizard
Clint (ugh, why?)
Wily
Linus
Lewis (although he's in a relationship already...)
Gus
Morris
Gunther
Casino Bouncer

Heavily weighted towards men, even if you count Krobus and the Dwarf as female. Add many more marriage candidates and you should probably start adding more bachelorettes.

You could add the witch at the same time as making the Wizard marriageable but making the witch distinct enough to be interesting would be challenging.
Leah already fills most of the story beats an elf would.
You could add some sort of river spirit/mermaid/female fisher character in the same patch that makes Wily marriageable.
You could add a Gotoro person. Lots of opportunities for interaction with Kent there.

Wizard, Clint, Wily, Gus, Morris and Gunther all have shops (or a position they need to man for something). Casino Bouncer as well but just requiring him to not be needed anymore to romance is technically an option. Krob and Dwarf also have shops so it doesn't really matter what gender you categorize them as in this case.

So your Men list should really be:

Linus
Lewis*
Bouncer

sandy also has a shop, though she was up as one of the options when CA did that twitter poll a year and change back. i don't think that having a shop is a constraint in CA's mind.

Perhaps once you earn a certain amount of cash, immigration to SV gets to a point where you can start building more houses and have new NPCs trek on in?

Wasn't there a Harvest Moon game built around that as a core concept?

I think it would add a lot to the game if a few new citizens moved to town at different story points.

The foreign exchange student can stay with Pierre's family. Leah's ex-boyfriend can crash with her. Clint's brother, Flint, can move in from the city to help Clint run the blacksmithery. A social worker can come to check up on Linus on Mondays and Fridays. Harvey met a woman on his ham radio, and now she stays with him. New construction can go up over by JojaMart. Maybe JojaMart can be turned into an apartment building when it goes out of business. I feel like the wizard can summon the occasional demon.

Put a Bed & Breakfast in-between Jojamart and the Blacksmith. New characters can then visit and you must complete their quests and woo them to move into Stardew Valley permanently.

Jojamart's Corpse or the Playground can then be converted into apartments to host the characters you persuade.

The Farmer becomes the landlord and has to fix/furnish rooms depending on the incoming character's taste (Giving more purpose to furniture.)

Or a guy.

If I have one criticism about how SDV handles LGBT stuff, it's that everyone appears to be heterosexual unless the PC gets involved (Leah's ex is whatever gender the PC is).

It's fair to point out, but I'm willing to give a much bigger pass to a one-man show where everyone in the game is player-sexual as opposed to a company like, say, Bioware.

Still, woulda been a nice touch if a few of the bachelor(ette)s paired off into same-sex couples doing the flower dance.

Being submerged in salt water is bad for the kegs apparently.

Also for new NPCs. Someone from the Gotoro Empire. Maybe a second gen immigrant escaping the cities. Maybe a spy. Maybe the princess on the run (it's an empire right?). Empress/Emperor Farmer.
