Ugh should I get Mario Kart or Hyrule Warriors? They're both on sale for digital code on Amazon for $40. I have plenty of party games so far so I'm leaning towards Hyrule (but I also have Dead Cells, Hollow Knight, etc etc)

If you like Warrior games Hyrule is good, I played it on the WiiU. It's a fun game, I'd always liked the idea of the Warrior games so I picked it up as my first and it was really fun with familiar characters. There's a lot of content but it's not a Zelda game and I remember a lot of people being upset because they bought it because it was Zelda related and didn't realize it wasn't a Zelda game. Mario Kart is timeless.

Mario Kart will probably remain at $60 outside of sales down to $40 until the next console. Hyrule Warriors will likely go down in price at some point. On WiiU MK8 is $20 and Hyrule Warriors is $7, this is for long term pricing, don't buy a Wii U to play these, the OS on that console it's slow and frustrating. That entire console feels like a prototype Switch now.

I'd go with Mario Kart most of the time because a round of Mario Kart is always a good idea, I still pull out Super Mario Kart and MK64 from time to time. But if you just want to run around killing stuff Hyrule is going to let you do that.

Hey, maybe dumb question, but whats the expected lifespan for Splatoon 2? I've already got like 30 games queued up to play on Switch, but the 30% off sale is tempting... I know eventually they'll stop doing splatfests and supporting other aspects of the game's online structure, so does the game currently still hold about the same value of playtime that it did at launch?

I was playing splatoon to great success pretty much right up until splat2n came out so, until splatoon 3 comes out is my guess

Yes absolutely. The game is essentially complete now, with all maps and weapons released. The playerbase is still large and active, and there are at least six more splatfests to go.

a lot of people like recommending Therion for ~maximum efficiency~ but personally I didn't really like Therion and barely even used him, I would not have enjoyed having him stuck with me for 80 hours. There's no wrong answer but you will be stuck with them in your party so it's much more important to pick a character you like imo

Dungeons are super small and don't take long to backtrack. I never liked Therion's character, but I went with Cyrus and had a blast.

Amazing amount of variety in characters and weapons, refined controls, ridiculous amount of content, emphasis on rts-lite objective prioritisation rather than just wandering around whacking stuff and taking over bases.

It’ll be healthy until a Splatoon 3 at the earliest so you’ll be good jumping in now. Splatoon has a devoted fanbase and there aren’t really any other games like it for them to jump ship to.

I certainly wouldn't call it mindless and some people find how quickly stuff goes downhill if you don't keep on top of the objectives fairly stressful

Nintendo games with online tend to have pretty dedicated fanbases last well until the plug is forcibly pulled on them, so probably until Splatoon 3 at least. (And that's probably not coming out for a long time.) Splatoon 1 still has quite a few people playing it.

Is there an easy way to switch the Pro Controller back and forth between bluetooth mode and whatever the gently caress the Switch uses mode?

The controller works really well when it's already set up to recognize your Switch or your PC, but switching from one to the other forces you to resync every time as far as I can tell.

It's a bad, repetitive game genre, and really it's people who already like musou games who are saying it's a good one.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I was somewhat concerned about whatever rewards you get from splatfests drying up after those end, but seeing as nobody brought that up, it must be a non issue. Gonna get the game soon! :woomy:

Splatoon 2 is magical. It’s always fun to play even when taking a hard loss and is packed full of players at every possible hour. The most impressive thing to me is that I’ve dumped a ton of time into it purely on wifi and can’t remember a single game with any lag.

You can. You can also access the NES games offline for up to a week offline before needing to connect again.

I have been carving through my Switch backlog this week. I’m a fan of Musou games, so I enjoyed Fire Emblem Warriors. I’ll definitely pick up Hyrule Warriors at some point when it drops as I played it on the WiiU.

I beat Mario+Rabbids over the course of three days and was legit surprised by how much I enjoyed the gameplay. The humor was pretty dumb, but I liked the puzzles and combat a lot.

I only used one party - Mario, Luigi and Rabbid Peach the whole way through though.

Only if it's not the switch your account is registered to as its home machine. So if you have two switches and you download it on both under the same account name, the one you registered that account with first never will need to check the server, but the second one will check every time, to make sure you aren't playing it already
