I understand that place kicking/punting/drop kicking are not at all the same, but the whole drop kicking thing seems really dumb. I mean from watching the drop kicks in the last few games it seems like ideally when the ball is kicked it's in about the same position as it would be on a tee, so why not just put it on a tee and get a running start?

And while they are totally different skill sets, these guys are definitely expected to fill in should the other get injured, so why not be at least competent at the other side of things? Does it take too long to punt a few times each practice for Seabass? Or for Dickson to kick a few field goals occasionally?
