I think she just is completely out of her depth right now and needs something to call hers rather than being tossed out having accomplished nothing but bad things for the Tory party.

She's only PM right now because no one else in the Tory party wants the job badly enough at this godawful point in time and promises to be gone before the next fixed election during which she has a minority government scrabbling for a majority by throwing billions at the DUP. Brexit is only happening because she triggered Article 50 before she called the election and there's nothing else of note that she'll get through parliament because they have no new ideas and the old ones are impossible or unpopular now.

No matter how bad it is, Brexit is the best she'll be able to do. I mean I doubt we'd even be able to go to war at this point.

did that rich guy who spent a bunch on polls before the last election (or maybe it was two ago) collect any useful data in hindsight? did that end up helping predict reality?

it seems like polling marginal ridings or whatever the gently caress you people call swing districts would get you a long way toward predicting things, since so many would only flip in an election so lopsided you'd know it from your results on hand anyway

this seems to be the data for that polling question up through one or two polls ago: https://d25d2506sfb94s.cloudfront.net/cumulus_uploads/document/847snhcoqc/YG%20trackers%20-%20Voting%20Intention%20since%20GE%202017_W.pdf

looks like the conservative lead over labour has bounced from +5 to +1 and back to +6 over the last month or so. i guess yall can tell me what that means. im guessing not much

thinking about your answers to the above, how useful is that poll in predicting the likely outcome of the next general election?

if corbyn's brexit strategy succeeds the next election will be in the next few months. to make this clearer for you, corbyn is desperately trying to trigger an election that polling shows he would lose, in the hope that he can somehow close the gap by offering voters a "jobs first brexit"

I wonder if Corbyn has any reason to believe pre-election polls might not be reflective of the results.

if the next election results correspond to that poll the same way last election results corresponded to election polling at the start of the cycle, labor will win by a 20 point margin

I'm also really hopeful that turnout continues it's return upwards to historic average because with UKIP nowhere to be seen recently and a transformed Labour offering a better vision for the youth and now middle aged people they'll benefit from that more than in the last few elections.

lol exactly

it will be after whatever may deal/no deal/no Brexit shitstorm goes down in parliament which will absolutely effect (maybe positively, maybe negatively) labours results at the next election and its a bit useless speculating based on a single poll taken before any of that happens, during a bit of a lull in the Brexit news cycle

tbh I don't think anyone can confidently predict how the next few months will play out or how that will effect the next election

least of all you, given that you've pretty consistently demonstrated that you know gently caress all about what's going on and can't even be bothered to do 5 minutes research on google ;)

theyre especially dumb and useless months or years out from an election (when we have some fairly weak media balance rules that did seem to have a significant impact last time)

theyre really especially dumb and useless when it's a single poll taken on the wrong side of what are (hopefully) going to be some of the most important and chaotic political events of most british people's lifetimes

polls predicted 2016 and brexit to within margin of error, the ~narrative~ interpreted those marginal leads to mean certain victory for clinton and remain

the point is not that the tories will 100% win the next election, its that labour is somehow still less popular than the party about to destroy the country, to the point that people ITT are relying on the tories actually destroying the country to drag corbyn over the finish line.
