If you’re not into shoegaze, then functional shoegaze with blastbeats probably won’t be your thing.

In like 83 I bought a Motley Crüe 45 with a handful of change and it ended up being a misprint. There was some lovely country music on tier instead of the lovely Motley Crue I needed so I returned it but I still regret giving back that weird rear end record.

After the top 5 it gets harder to put them in any real order but yeah, 2018 was real good, here's a top 10 list that is probably hilariously similar to a lot of other people's lists. Probably because most of what I listen to is what I see y'all recommend in here. (Nah it's really dad metal as gently caress, now that I look at it again, because :corsair: )

Uada - Cult of a Dying Sun
BTBAM - Automata I/II
Alkaloid - Liquid Anatomy
Slugdge - Esoteric Malacology
Sigh - Heir to Despair
Deadbird - III: The Forest Within The Tree
Amorphis - Queen of Time
Sulphur Aeon - The Scythe of Cosmic Chaos
Behemoth - I Loved You At Your Darkest
Skeletonwitch - Devouring Radiant Light

I was watching youtube today and came across this video and it reminded me when the latest Dying Fetus album came out some people got really angry at me because I said one of the preorder packages was cool (it was the one with the knife). They got really angry because they claimed it promoted violence, so this is dedicated to them:

I didn't realize the Green Carnation guy had been working with Subterranean Masquerade, so I was pretty happy to hear this thing from last year. They've shifted styles from the The End Records sound they had in 2005 into something that sounds partway between modern Amorphis and Orphaned Land

Man, nobody has mentioned Khôrada - "Salt" in their list yet, that's a bummer. Easily in the top 5 for me, but I'm not sure what else I'd put there yet. I'm so glad Agalloch is still doing stuff without Jon.

It sounds more like an Aaron Gregory project than Agalloch, which is good because Aaron Gregory dukes and Agalloch is boring.

Dude this band Helgamite is insane, I've played with them whenever I roll through Virginia. The first time blew my mind though, right after a crazy guitar solo, he picked up a sax and blasted out this delayed sax solo, and then straight back into the crushing intro riff.

Its the second song on this record with the sax, the whole album kicks rear end. https://helgamite.bandcamp.com/album/hypnagogia

I think this is a pretty cool idea in case some of you are interested. I've got a couple of instrumental demo tracks that I'll be rehearsing with and recording next weekend to send in. There's probably no way in hell that I'd get picked, but it'll be fun since I haven't done anything musically in almost 6 years.
