I would be curious to see a side by side comparison of the economy of Eisenhower with his 92% tax rate and our current situation today. Anyone know if something that like exists?

For 1955, for instance, we can tease out totals for the nation’s top 427 reported incomes. Back then, in the middle of the Eisenhower years, the wealthy taxpayers in this near top 400 averaged less than $1.7 million each, about $14.6 million in 2014 dollars.

I'm really happy about this because I was hoping impeach the motherfucker wasn't going to become like a never talked about albatross around the neck sort of thing. I think this is so important that AOC is taking this stance not just for all the reasons already talked about in the thread but because it needs to be continually drilled into folks' heads forever what a load of bullshit the concept of decorum is on every level.

Hell I'm a lawyer and I get it, but now with the court so politicised I think she has an higher obligation than her personal ego and love of the job.

Not that it would matter in my case, where I live, Judges gotta retire by 75.

Technically unpaid internships are illegal and yet college grads are forced to go into indentured servitude to meet that 2-year experience qualification for an entry level position.

Honestly it is pretty impressive to be obese at his age and not having big health complications. But I guess being rich and having access to the best care probably helps.

With his diet and hatred of exercise it's a miracle he's made it as far as he has. But some people are like that. My grandma lived into her late 70s and she smoked a lot and also drank quite a bit for like 90% of her life.

Unpaid internships are illegal unless the intern is getting an educational experience of the industry they are interning in, and they aren't displacing a paid position, or doing a job that normally a paid person would be performing.

The problem is, this poo poo is basically never enforced.

yeah the DOL guidance says almost literally "unpaid interns should cost you money, not make you money"

since they can't be replacing labor that would otherwise be done by paid workers, and they should take time and resources to teach/train continuously.

(although, of course, done right in the long term an internship program should be profitable - but that's because you're training your future employees at an up-front cost)

You dismally untalented little creep!

At first I thought changing the emphasis of "border security" from "the wall" was a good indication of the GOP settling on some compromise. (We've always discussed the wall in terms of border security, but it seemed like the GOP wanted to talk about immigration through border security. But even that was too nuanced for Trump and the GOP finally settled on a more tangible talking point like "the wall" which Trump is now unfortunately fixated on.) But now I wonder if they are shifting the narrative again to justify their pull of rank for declaring a state of emergency.
