She's a young woman (the two things conservatives despise the most, combined into one being) who's openly socialist and came from a modest background, to the point where she couldn't even afford the rent in DC where she had to move until she started getting her congressional salary. Conservatives have responded by jumping on literally anything they can to paint her as immature, stupid, or secretly not poor.

Then people found out that she is a proud socialist and it scared the poo poo out of them so they are currently falling over themselves to discredit her for doing things like living in a house and owning clothes. In all fairness to the chuds (though I realize that you do not, in fact, "gotta hand it to them") I have only really seen one person upset about that dancing video, that being the anonymous account who uploaded it originally. The rest of the internet, left and right, seems pretty united in dunking on that person.

Boomers grew up during the Cold War so they have this insane, deeply inculcated fear of socialism/communism that is cultivated by rich Republicans. AOC is everything a 65 year old Republican fears, young, female, minority, intelligent and leftish. What worries me about all this, and I am 100% not comparing Hillary to AOC in any other way but this, but the GOP identified Hillary as a future presidential candidate back in the '90s and then spent 25 years turning her into the absolute exemplar of creeping liberalism and that's a big part of why she had such high unfavorability ratings among conservatives and (even moderates and young lefties who just went off what they had heard from their Republican relatives.) ONLY 90s KIDS REMEMBER the insane vilification of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton but I kind of see the same thing happening here and I worry how that's gonna impact her favorablity when she is old enough to run for president. Now there are several key differences between the two women obviously, most notably on background and policy, so you can't draw a remotely 1:1 comparison here. Also in 10 years when AOC runs about, oh, 50% of the current GOP voter base will be dead so that'll help too.

AOC is pretty left by american standards so a credible leftist by international standards, she's also smart and charismatic so she's generating a lot of press but not in a bad way. and she's not afraid to say taboo things like "we should tax the rich heavily and pay for expanded social services" because of her promising talent, youth, and opinions, she is absolutely terrifying the old white male standard of the right wing and they are jumping all over her trying to find something, anything, to paint her as a deranged dishonest lunatic or whatever. you can expect how well this is going since she's too young to have real dirt against her and like many other young democrats has natural social media game not to mention also that right now the terminally online right wing american politics are deeply entwined with racism and sexism, so a young woman simply existing is going to completely enrage plenty of dudes who need desperately to log off
