I always hated boy bands, but I was in college from 1996-2000, and I loving loved ska and swing. It was great, fun music. People dressed up to go to the shows, they danced, the girls looked gorgeous. It helped that I was a sax player, so I felt cool for the first time ever. (It didn't last.)

Perfect username/post combo. :discourse:

In other news, after 10 years and multiple attempts, I finally finished :bsg: for the second time since the initial airing! :toot:

Good show, great production values, each episode is wonderfully written, ~amazing~ special effects (especially for the time); but ultimately it was a product of its era and fell prey to the 00's usual issues. Namely, throwing spaghetti at the wall for the over-arching plot which ultimately either took the wind out of its own sails or just made the wonderful in-episode writing pointless.

Still a wonderful show which influenced a lot of modern television and helped to mainstream sci-fi in many critical eyes.

:five: that Amazon suggested Babylon 5 as soon as the finale rolled credits. :golfclap:

Everyone who's watching the new season The Magicians when it comes out, should rewatch the first part of the first episode. The foreshadowing makes so much sense now after the end of the last season.

Were they? I never really listened to them because they were so bad when I saw them open for another band, but I suppose that could have been an off night or something. Really off.

I'm too lazy to mute the tv and open Spotify to find out, but from memory they were actually pretty okay, not amazing but on the level of like I dunno System of a Down at least, and that the singer told SPIN magazine that his biggest influence was Morrissey, which is why they didn't have typical awful nu-metal vocals

Okay I just looked on youtube and one of the indie infotainment channels I dig (Lie Likes Music, he's European) actually has a video about how the Deftones are legit, even talking about how they got into shoegaze elements and basically sounded like Jesu at one point

I swear that's not my chanel lol

Edit: lmfao they've been called "the radiohead of metal" lol

Edit 2: and they're fans of Depeche mode too man hell yeah

Incubus, Deftones, and SOAD getting slapped with the nu-metal tag was bullshit, but otoh that does mean that there are three good nu-metal bands.

there's actually four because Linkin Park was good before they went pop

Also Chino (the lead singer) has had multiple side projects including one with Zach Hill and the guy from Pinback, one with some of the members of ISIS, a solo witch house project, etc.

Dude's got very diverse tastes and is easily one of my favorite musicians.

People say "DFW" instead of "Dallas Fort-Worth" because it the former has you move your mouth less, even though the latter has fewer syllables. People are that lazy.

To wit: plugging in your phone and turning on Spotify is many more calories than just pressing the "on" button.

I like the Craig Charles Funk & Soul Show on BBC 6 Music because I enjoy him as a DJ. I appreciate his enthusiasm for the music. Less so with stuff on the main channels like BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2, which I don't really listen to any more, but genre-specific radio shows can benefit a lot from a presenter who really loves the music they're playing.

Also Vancouver's classic rock station owns in general, been listening to it my whole life. They do a block of radio plays every Sunday and it gives me life.
