In my school experience the idea of going to a technical college instead of university was considered a failure on the part of the student. If you looked like you were going to fail they would ignore you and try and sweep the situation under the rug. I remember going with my mother to see the deputy principal because of low marks in 10th grade, she said 'What can we do to help TMF get into university?' he laughed and said 'He's never going to university. Speak to a careers advisor.' I ended up doing network admin courses, and now people are more willing to hire me than unviersity graduates, because the programs I did involved hands on work with server equipment. Taking any biology/ecology class is depressing as gently caress. Modern conveniences and industrialized agriculture have distanced people from how loving brutal and uncomprimising nature is. When you go to a grocery store and buy food that was grown hundreds of miles away it just feels like magic and no one actually thinks about how their life is entirely dependent on a stable ecosystem. Environmentalism has been branded as for hippies even though our food supply is fragile and the potential of millions starving to death is still a reality. In a sane world the stability of the environment would be priority number one but we live in hell dimension so SJWs ruining videogames is what galvanizes young men with disposable incomes and free time. Like it's loving astounding how shortsighted climate change deniers are. I was going back and forth with one a while ago and his argument came down to "What do I care if parts of new York are underwater, its not the end of the world." I argued that millions of people fleeing inland as their homes cease to have value would turbofuck the economy and he said he hadn't considered that. Really? Basic critical thinking? Christ. It takes a lot of mental gymnastics to be a denier too. They'll often argue that climate scientists are just lying to get grant money. That argument isn't inherently dishonest, any rational person will question where the money is coming from when it comes to research. It becomes dishonest with deniers because they totally ignore the massive global oil industry and all the poo poo it's done for money. I'm supposed to distrust scientists because they might be lying to get money but the oil and coal industires are honest because? Elderbean has issued a correction as of 06:28 on Jan 10, 2019 |

Literally the entire mission of the EPA is to conserve an environment that is conducive to human life. The EPA doesn’t ask “what can we do for the trees?” The EPA asks “what can the trees do for us?”, and if the answer is “they can do more for us in situ than as paper”, only then might the EPA be interested in conserving them.

When I worked, like, six years in fast food, I worked over forty hours a week and they would literally steal hours and claim they would apply them to any days I had to take off and never did. I didn't believe them, but I had no choice because the other places around here did that too and paid less. I also worked harder there than at any other job I've ever had, regularly doing the work of three employees at once because they liked to send people home early just before a rush to make their profits look better. I was fired because I made one of the newer guys clean the grill before he cooked more meat on it because I had to do dishes. Best thing that ever happened to me, because it led me to a job where I literally make twice what I did before with something resembling benefits and two weeks' worth of paid time off a year. It's soul-crushing work -- I mostly lie to active duty service members and their family about how long it will take for their information to be updated in our system to get them off the phone to give our understaffed billing and enrollment office more breathing room, which is better than what I used to do while I was in Claims, where I had to lie about our company paying claims it wasn't going to pay until it was too late -- but it pays my way, helps me pay for my mother's upkeep (I buy her groceries and pay her bills), and leaves me enough left over so I don't have that cloud of crushing existential destitute angst I had hovering over me when I worked in fast food.

Less than 1% of the population is in the armed forces. Also life is not a video game meaning those drones need to land somewhere, get refueled and re-equipped, get maintained, etc. That bunker needs electricity to function. Like I really dunno what people are talking about when they say the military will just shoot their way through millions of Americans. How do you envision the logistics of that happening exactly?
