We're all food anarchists. Foods are whatever you need them to be.

I just mixed some lemon juice, water, and sugar into a lovely casserole. Mmmm.

I've always heard of sasparilla being associated with root beer but I dunno if that's accurate or not.

I looked this up because why the gently caress not and it's one of like 10 different flavors:

quote:

¼ cup sassafras root bark
¼ cup winter green leaf
2 tablespoons sarsaparilla root
1 tablespoon licorice root
1 tablespoon ginger root
1 tablespoon dandelion root
1 tablespoon hops flowers
1 tablespoon birch bark
1 tablespoon wild cherry tree bark
1 teaspoon juniper berries
1 cinnamon stick
1 cup unrefined cane sugar
½ cup ginger bug (get the tutorial), fresh whey or 1 packet kefir starter culture (available here)

That being said I don't know anyone ever who would describe root beer as "mint flavored". Anise/black licorice is much more common in fancy ones or just sugar and vanilla in cheap ones.

My grandfather used to make root beer at home but he stopped before I was born and is dead now so I can't ask him. However, as a descendant of a former root beer maker, the sassafras thing sounds right to me.

The answer is because hating pineapple on pizza is a meme and people think it makes them funny.

Twenty years ago every mention of pizza in a cartoon or TV show would feature a joke about anchovies and how one person in the group would always order anchovies and ruin the pizza for everyone else.

I don't think I've even seen anchovies offered as a pizza topping since well before that futurama episode about them aired.

Basically every place has anchovies as a topping, you're just not asking for it. Pepperoni and anchovy pizza is delicious.

It's just that no one thinks of root beer as tasting minty if they've had it since childhood and it was just root beer, just like no one thinks of cola being like citrus and cinnamon. You notice once it's pointed out. Sugar and vanilla gets you cream soda that no one would mistake for root beer. There's no fixed recipe, lots of different ingredients can be used, but there's almost always something minty heavy in the mix. Wintergreen is. I've made plain sassafras root beer, and it's got a minty taste even if it's not just mint.

To go with memes almost as archaic as making root beer:

I don't frequently order it, but Pineapple on a pizza is super good--bonus points if you Bacon is your "ham"--and I will only forgive dissenters who just don't like pineapple in general, or those with a doctors note. Anyone who hasn't even had a Hawaiian-style or similar are extra wrong :colbert:.

Gonna try anchovies again, probably with like a half 3-cheese, half anchovies and pepperoni. I remember oddly liking them as a child. If I still like them, I'll move on to the triple threat of anchovies, bacon, and pineapple and report back on how the highest sodium content you can get in a single slice tastes.

My heart thuds in my chest due to anticipation and sodium overload.

Is that an issue? I was looking for images of corn on pizza because Japan.

Curry to me is just a word that the English use loosely to refer to some spices they stole from a subcontinent and currently use to excess
