There have also been many more vanity/no article posts in the last few days about if Trump is going to cave or the dems will, they are getting a bit shook.
Senators have already started publically calling for the GOP to just get the government reopened before paychecks have actually been missed by most of the effected workers. I don't think the question here is whether Trump or Pelumer blink first, but rather how long Republican senators can/will hold the line. An awful lot of them are up in 2020. And I think that would be fairly apparent even to the most fervent Trumpeteer

As far as I know, there's never been a single government shutdown in recent times in which the Republicans didn't get the blame. The 1996 and 2013 shutdowns under Clinton and Obama both saw the Republicans getting blamed according to contemporary polls because of their view as obstructionist, and obviously we're on our third shutdown under Trump that was started with Republicans fully in power of every branch. Also we're on our third shutdown under Trump that had Republicans fully in power of every branch. There's no way to emphasize that point hard enough. Out of 12 shutdowns in the entire history of the United States, Trump's single term has been responsible for 1/4 of them and he's not even close to the end of his term yet.
The longer this lasts, the worse the GOP is going to end up looking. Even if Trump scores what looks like a temporary victory with some nominal amount of money for the wall, the $5 billion he was asking for isn't even close to what's necessary to build it and 2020 will come and go without a wall.

Are any of you familiar with the specific mechanics of how gofundme works? I thought the account holder had access to the funds immediately and could spent it how they wish? Does gofundme have control over the funds before they are withdrawn, or up until a certain point? Is there a general policy that the stated fundraising goal has to be met before funds can be withdrawn and used by the account holder or else automatic refunds happen?
There are probably differences between how the various gofundme/kickstarter type services operate that I don't know about. How can they enforce accountability over what the account holders do with the money, or do they have a blanket disclaimer that "hey you contribute at your own peril, we don't monitor what the accountholder does with the money"?
I'd imagine they have an interest in preventing big scams being the norm or else their whole business model would collapse and no one would give to any of the campaigns once there was a widespread perception that "these are all or mostly scams".
