When we were at full blown war (more war that is), not after the draw downs, the reserves and national guard were being rotated out there just about as regularly as active military. Now not so much but they still do get activated for some reason. Well, quite a bit still but it's slowed down a lot compared to about 10+ years ago.

The US national guard has the same training as the active duty. As a matter of fact, a lot of soldiers go back and forth (active duty to reserves and reserves to active duty) all the time. I personally started out in the reserves, did a few years, then went active duty for a few years, back to the reserves, back to active duty, and I'm currently back in the reserves for a while. The only difference is that national guard is a state's army with the governor being the commander in chief. The federal government can make them active duty to go do federal stuff though. There's no separate basic or advanced training. It's all the same (except for some of the specialized schools that will allow a reservist to do a lot of the classroom stuff online and then just go the the actual school for a few weeks to do the physical portion).
