I have no idea if the hero ever has a moment of realization, but this seemed like the Turner Diaries but in movie form, what a bizarre movie. Was it popular when it came out? Because it seems like the anthem to every angry suburban dad.

I joked to Smythe that Falling Down is an alt right movie before it was a thing, but truth is I'm correct Basically Michael Douglas works for a defense contractor and when america doesn't go his way he goes around correcting every target of 90s standup comedy, and ethnic cleansing those that can't be. They throw in an actual neo-nazi for him to kill as a "see not racist" it's an "effective" movie regardless where you stand on it (hence why they don't make em like that anymore), but yeah ripe for chuddery.

Falling Down wasn't a cause or a manifesto, but it was a bellwether for the point when white men decided that if they couldn't be on top forever then they'd lash out violently and try to justify it by blaming everyone else for persecuting them.

The more I learn about the 90s, the more I understand that much of our current moment happened before with militias, Rush, and Clinton. There was more white supremacist action back then, in terms of absolute numbers of people doing things, and the right-wing rhetoric was very similar.
