AnonSpore posted:I recall Christopher Duntsch being mentioned briefly in this thread and wanted to circle back to him a bit. In case you don't remember he's the neurosurgeon who botched almost every one of the 30+ surgeries he performed, in two cases straight up causing the death of his patient, and stayed bouncing around Texas hospitals doing hella drugs and crippling people for years until he was finally caught. Anyway, I recently listened to a podcast about him and how/why exactly he was allowed to do what he did and I hope it counts for this thread. It was super upsetting for me to listen to, especially since I was recovering from a pretty routine surgery myself when it was recommended to me. I'm barely into the first episode and I feel like I want to die. Thanks! I look forward to listening to it in 5 minute chunks, or whatever the audio equivalent of watching a horror movie thru partially covered eyes is. jfc

It could also be that the terms they've got in the article are now flagged to send off to a task force or something too.

Well poo poo, I wonder how many ancient-rear end cases are gonna have something wild happen and suddenly end up solved this year? Last year we had the GSK/EAR and a few others, if I recall? Then again, maybe it's just a hoax by a guy trying to get some help or fame.

I think the best thing to do is put them in a room together and let him intimidate and browbeat her directly, and sort of cut out the middleman. This is exactly the same as how courts work, which is why accused rapists and murderers are routinely allowed direct access to their “victims” during court proceedings. I've been sitting in on harassment court in the U.S., a lot recently. Where one party is trying to bring a restraining order on the other party. I've been really impressed at how hardcore the judges are about "nobody here can talk to anybody else here." It might be local (Pacific Northwest), but I've admired how much the judges prevent the two parties from talking to each other.

William Hickman, who seems to have caused outbreaks of hybristophilia whenever he appeared in court -- Ayn Rand had plenty of company -- and bafflingly became a cause célèbre for 'was this just a brilliant young man who never got a real chance?' in spite of clearly being thick as mince (this is a 19-year-old who only realised the snag of abducting someone old enough to give a physical description of you after he'd kidnapped his victim, and who asked his own jailers “How does a fellow act when he is crazy?”). He wasn't a serial killer, though he admitted to killing one person in an armed robbery before he kidnapped Marion. The description of exactly how Marion Parker's father got his daughter back is levels of miserably grim; galaxy-brains Hickman must have decided to kill her and dispose of her body, then changed his mind and reckoned he could still grab the loot and make his escape. Poor little kid.

Sliced my neck open and pushed everything out of the way, cut the bad disc out and replaced it with a cadaver bone, then bolted that to my vertebrae. Sounds really creepy, but the alternative was living on pain pills and eventually causing nerve damage to my arm and hand. Glad I had it done. From a couple of pages back, but what's up, hernia buddy? Had the same thing: traumatic hernia between C7 and D1 (between my shoulder blades) from a neck crank during grappling training. Thought it was a torn muscle at first. Then I started loosing sensation and strength in my right arm. Started getting really concerned when I couldn't turn my house key in the lock anymore. Also, lying down caused excruciating pain so my nights consisted of sitting in the sofa and trying to sleep. I was really lucky: in a period of two weeks, I had a CAT and a MRI scan, 3 visits to two different specialists (one for a second opinion) and my surgery. And I has the same reaction you had when waking up: no more pain! You can hardly see the scar anymore where they went to through my neck.
